Since i can remember, i've always loved videogames music. It is one of the main reasons i started practicing piano . But there is one particular song i really fell in love with, and i would like to know if it belonged to a music genre. Its from the "Mario is Missing" SNES game, here's the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HO8Q-WbHQ9EI have no idea what kind of music is this, but i love it. I would like to know on what genre, i can find music like this. It happens the same with this song, i could hear it all day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hZG208APbAI hope you liked the music too guys. Thanks in advance!.

I would say the first one is jazz albeit in a 16 bit fashion. The second one has lots of elements of classical (the cadential patterns, some of the rhythmic patterns, 18th century trills, etc.) but isn't exactly classical. There's some more modern harmonic movement happening later in the piece. So, classical influenced...does that sound like a fair description? This video game stuff reminds me of being a kid again.

Thanks a lot!, i also thought the first one sounded jazzy, but wasn't sure since i don't listen jazz a lot. And yes, the 2nd is harder to label into a genre. I thought i recognized some Impressionists elements, but i could be totally wrong.

Most video game composers are pretty versatile so they can compose any style. I think you should check film composers for similarities.
