I noticed there is a system update for my Roland. I've downloaded the file but.. I'm afraid I'll break it! LOL
I didn't buy the Roland memory stick. Does this really matter? Can I not just use a normal usb stick and still be fine?
I feel like a fish out of water with this stuff and I'm computer savvy!

If you have a decent thumb drive that should work (I'm almost certain Roland doesn't do anything but re-brand and charge you more for it). Format it on the NX before you put the upgrade file(s) on it.

Any USB stick should do, but you probably have to format it with the RD before you copy the files to it. It's a bit picky about which file systems it understands (at least my RD-700NX is). Formatting the memory stick will delete its contents, so copy any files on it to your PC first. EDIT: Seems I need to type faster

Oh boy... is there somewhere it tells you how to format? I know that wasn't in the manual. I haven't played with my board buttons at all (just using factory settings) so I have no idea what would function as what.

I'm not really sure if it's fixed all of this or only updated me for the 1.03 v because that's what I had, but the Roland site says this:
Update history [ Ver.2.00 ] Additional Functions
Added Live Sets - Fifty new Live Sets, featuring synth sounds that are sure to give you a distinctive advantage when performing live on stage, have been added to the Preset bank. - Thanks to the addition of 100 new slots to the User banks, you can now save up to 160 Live Sets. Available for Roland Wireless Connect ( WNA1100-RL ). Added the Auto Off function. For more information, refer to "Auto Off Setting ( RD-700NX_300NX_l_ErP_je01_W.pdf )."
* For more information, refer to "RD-700NX/RD-300NX Version 2 Supplementary Manual ( RD-700NX_RD-300NX_V200_e01_W.pdf )." * To view a list of the Live Sets, please refer to "RD-300NX Version 2 Live Set List ( RD-300NX_V200_List_je01.pdf )." [ Ver.1.03 ] Bug Fix
The "System V-Link" and the "System Switch Assign" of System Exclusive message had been misaddressed. The faults were in both RD-300NX itself and the MIDI implementation. You can download the latest PDF file of the MIDI implementation from the Download page for Owner's manuals.
Functionality Improved
Added the parameter "Clock Out" in "System Settings." This parameter can control ON/OFF setting for transmitting the F8(Timing Clock) message. RD-300NX had transmitted it at any time.
[ Ver.1.02 ]
Alleviated the feelings of the tone interruption when performing with layered tones using combinations of Piano and Strings.
