What an inspiring way to start a morning...thanks Dan. I'll leave a link here for those who are open minded about no restrictions on how many people can play a single piano and bring out the percussive and other attributes of the instrument... http://thepianoguys.com/portfolio/one-direction-what-makes-you-beautiful/

It does happen in the U.S. Take a wander over to Piano Forum and check out Rich Galassini's thread "Random Act of Culture."
I also posted Dan's link in that thread. Yes, it is credited.

Not sure how a very creative and inventive use of a piano can be uninteresting, but whatever! I find what they did far more interesting and colorful than dull, boring unisons.

Also half of the sound havebeen added artificially in the recording studio, Just for the show, much move and visual trick but no content... 1 tonal change, 3 or 4 chords, a poor development more based on repetition and adding voices than real musical surprise, good music while you wait all night at the Apple store for the new Iphone exactly the kind of musical product intended to push you to "buy something" That is how I hear it in my tortured mind Some jazz pianists make interesting uses of the "aluminium" plates of Yamahas, but the tone of iron plates is nicer in my opinion. The Shoothouse. Pianists should try that ( but jumping directly on the strings, could produce interesting tones too )

yes thats a pity musicians may act as clowns to earn a living, or are they musicians, or not ? Another relatively secure market is the religious hymns like music... Sorry if my dislike hurt you, for me it just does not make me have fun to see/hear those sort of things that is why my vengeance is so terrible .

Inventive, creative, and novel, pushing the envelope of how music is produced from an instrument that is not usually played that way.
Some people just thrive on being negative, I guess.

When it is about music you would be surprised how many different styles of music I like or appreciate, or eventually try to appreciate. But I have been getting really epidermic about what is more done for entertainment than for the soul of music. I was joking for the Spanish mob, while their version is not really rhythmically correct they seem to have fun, and the air is recognizable anyone have any right to do what pleases himself and any listener can appreciate or not any kind of music, sorry to give my appreciation as abruptly... It may also depend of the period of its life, lets see when I will be really at teen age what will be my level of acceptation...

Kamin, although I don't agree with you that they are clowns, sometimes musicians will take a route that is on the lighter side of things (novelty,parody/comedy), once they have proven themselves as real musicians. John Cage, Chick Corea ect have experimented in this way. The one fellow in the video Stephen Nelson is an extremely talented cellist incorporating a unique percussive style to much of his music. Here is a more classical oriented recording that may let you appreciate this better... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ry4BzonlVlw

I have never seen or heard anything quite like it before. These guys are trying to make a living, and they came up with something unique and different...more power to them. I support them by buying their CD.
I don't see anything valuable about uniqueness for the sake of uniqueness. Nor would I say they're "trying to make a living" is a reason for praising something.

Are you saying that what the piano guys is doing is not music? FWIW, their selection is a very nice rendition in a genre that is called a "Video Song," pioneered by groups like "Pomplamoose." They define the genre: A VideoSong is a new Medium with two rules:
1. What you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing for instruments or voice). 2. If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds). http://youtu.be/6G5JaicYuVU --Andy

That is when I notice I begin to belong to another era Taking Bach and doing some movie music with it is nothing particularely innovative, but i can stand that. I simply dont even recognize that music... I dont want to agress anyone, I just dont buy the whole concept, fine , no problem with me...

Lots of fun and very cool. I love it and have forwarded the link to several other folks.
Some people take themselves too serious.
Thanks for the link.

I bet that little girl at the start of the clip couldn't believe what her small donation would result in!! Half way through she's still just standing at the front near the bassist! I've wheeled a piano out of the classroom and into the playground at my school - my senior class sang Christmas carols to the junior school at recess as a completely impromptu concert - it gave the kids such a buzz to have a band playing just for them in the middle of their school yard!
I have to say that I feel groups such as ThePianoGuys provide a valuable bridge between youth and culture. As a school music teacher, I use clips such as these to introduce kids to classical music. After showing the 'you don't know you're beautiful' clip it provided the opportunity for a lesson of wonderful experimentation standing around an old, exposed upright with some of the kids playing 'heart and soul' while others stood around tapping a particular string or some percussive effect on the body. One of my senior students used 'Moonlight' to compare the original Beethoven composition with the modern effects incorporated in ThePianoGuys version.
Thanks for posting the links :0)
