Aside from the 2 songs provided by Faber and Faber, can anyone suggest something for my students to practice that include the chromatic scale? They are at level 3A. Thanks,

Done in around 20 minutes, including the editing, so don't expect too much.

But really I felt like composing a tiny bit, so...

Notice the following:
* It's got your nickname on, so that should arouse a few questions around that!
* The tempo is not a tpyo (<- this one is and it's intentional). It's Allegro-ish
* I played it at q = 138, but it can work rather slower.
* This tiny etude, along with practising the chromatic scale to both hands (mostly the right of course), it also allows you to check how well your student knows the notes about the high A on the right hand.
* The PDF format IS the US letter format, so you should be able to print it fine.
* You're free to share it as you see fit (this applies to everyone), but if possible send them this link, if it's through the internet. Otherwise photocopies are fine.

It actually may be that I'm not fully aware of the technical abilities of level 3A in which case you may disregard this short etude all together. If you don't like it, you can also disregard it, no questions asked.

But this was my break from editing 'serious' big works of 80 pages + so thanks for the opportunity!

Gary, As I said I'm not sure how technically capable is a student at level 3A, so it could very well be that it's too difficult.

Still, I'd hope that at a slower speed (let's say moderato) and with some happy feelings inside, it could also work, and make the work rather easier...

If I'd have to guess on which part is the most difficult I'd say is the part where there's an 'antichronization' in the left hand...

And each student is different. But as I was coming up with this I had to keep in mind and not make it 'as I'd like to' (cause I could go so much further with this, believe me!

Outside of Rimsky-Korsakov's Greatest Hit, and now Nikolas's Etude, has anything EVER been written for this?

Ok... I'm completely happy and blushed that my name is next to Korsakovs'! yay overall!

The problem for me was to keep it rather easy. Otherwise I have another idea for a chromatic etude in a romantic style...

Without wanting to derail the thread completely (<- already happened) should I just go for it, perhaps?

quicky notes:

1. I seem to like the upper part of the keyboard and lots of ledger lines. I did add an 8va sign in the second page to ease the pain, but still.

2. The above is probably due to writing something easy and for children. For me (and not exactly well thought) this means using the tremble clef and not spreading the hands too much. Plus if I had gone further down the keyboard it would have gone much darker in tone.

3. The tempo IS q.=120 but it should feel rather slow and Andante-ish actually. I probably should've put a tempo marking for the dotted half, but then it would be too slow... oh well...

Any comments are most welcome.

And, yes, I'm enjoying that! This one took me the better part of 40 minutes... A bit slower than last time I guess!
