Some of you may know that we did our first themed (Philip Glass) recital on RST recently, which went really well. Our next one is themed on Eric Satie, and there are pieces still available if anyone wants to join in smile

We plan to perform in Early November, cheers smile

This is a really fun idea. I'm having a look at N2.
Can I please put a temporary "hold" on it? I'll let you know for sure by Wed or Thursday of this week.

Edited to add: the composer's notes are a hoot.
One is instructed to begin "with amazement"...."don't leave", to play with great kindness, then more intimately, lightly, with intimacy and ...."without pride".

The last one is probably the easiest at this point!

Thanks Wayne smile

I've been looking at the score and there are no bar lines to indicate the measures!

I did a google search and it seems this is one of his "trademarks" of style...but ...well, it seems very very weird. There isn't a time signature either! I guess I'll go with a 4/4 concept.

ACK!

How hard are these pieces, and where can I find sheet music? Maybe I'll join in, if it will get me practicing smile

Cheryl, I’m glad you are interested in taking part in this themed recital on Satie’s music.

Sam, I know you are an advanced player, so you could try the Gnossienne No. 5. Take a look at the music score with this link.

Thanks. I would have if I had caught it earlier. (I've never even looked at the RTS thread. If it had had it's own recital thread I would have noticed it). I've been working on a few Satie pieces but they have all been taken.

There's loads of time, the performance date has been extended to mid November wink The "challenge" was one of the great things about the last one smile

We are all just getting started Peyton. Some of us (mainly moi) has to learn each note and chord because I don't know any of them! Lots of time to join in!

Peyton, it would be wonderful if you'd join us! smile Especially since you already have been studying Satie's compositions. This will be my very first time learning a Satie selection.

Thanks. I would have to learn an all new work (I don't think I have even heard the 5,6 and 7 Gnossiene's) and I really would not feel comfortable recording unless I've really worked a while on them. I have the 3rd Gnossienne to the point where I really enjoy playing it and would feel comfortable presenting it. The first Gnossienne I have memorized as well but I'm still not sure I understand it... smile Satie was such a mystic. I love the way he has left the Gnossienne's so open to interpretation. I mean really... what does "Advise yourself slowly" mean? LOL I'll enjoy hearing you guys and hopefully I will record what I'm working on at some point in the future for the BF recital or the piano bar.

But seriously, next time you do something like this why don't you give it it's own thread? A Satie recital is a great idea.
