I was thinking about buying a new headset for my PC and phone... and I was wondering what do you guys normally use?

I tried skullcandy aviator, Beats by Dr. Dre, Sol Republic at a local store, which blasted out club/jazz music...

I think Sol Republic looks the best on me, followed by Dr. Dre and I look like a dork with skullcandy. But I do find skullcandy quality of sound to be quite good.

Are there any headsets I should also consider?

I have a decent set of Koss over-the-ear headphones that I like. They were $50 for me.

Oh... I have some AKG K272 HD and some Seinnheiser HD600. The AKG are ok and closed type which I use mostly for recording sessions, but the HD600 are wonderful! They are awesome even for mixing and now that I have them connected to the grace design preamp they work AMAZINGLY! Have them for 10 years now and have not presented a single problem!

For amazing quality I'd be seriously looking over the high end headphones of Seinnheiser

I guess the answer to your question really depends on your first statement in which you express concern for those that look best on you.

The Sennheiser - not Seinnheiser - HD600 are close to $600.00 list price, if still available, although they may be sold for less by some dealers.

Ha, actually it does not matter too much as to how I look, but since they placed mirrors next to the headsets, I had a look... and I laughed when I saw myself in the mirror.

I never used to have a headset until recently, I was able to put my entire CD collection into my mobile phone and I can play any music at will.

I am currently waiting for my piano to arrive as I moved interstate in Australia, so some good quality headset might relieve my burning desire to play piano for a little while.

And I got them around that price (in GBP) back in 2004... :-/ Now the HD800 which are supposed to be great are about 1500$!!!! which is A LOT!!! Yikes! but I have enjoyed the HD 600 too much and were worth the price I think.

I used to use skullcandy...unfortunately I never took down the model name or no. Basically bought it on sale so it was much cheaper, it lasted me for a good 4 years.
I used audio technica too but the sound quality didn't last as it got older

Am currently using Sennheiser CX300; good but does not shut out external noise& Klipsch S3 which is really good for classical music. Between the 2 i'll say the S3 is better

I use the Sennheiser HD 598 though spent a little more for the optional Burbery designed model.

I remember a saying on Head-Fi.org that every dollar in a good pair of headphones is worth it, double if you listen to classical.

I go off headphone.com reviews because they test frequency response, which I find to be the single most important thing for listening to classical. I got some Ultimate Ears UE350s because they were cheap and rated highly, and I'm glad I did. I used to have Klipsch Image S2s (available on Ebay for under 30 bucks), and they had extremely comfortable tips, but I lost them. The UE350s have normal round tips which aren't as comfortable but it's not bad, and they sound much better.

Typically the "popular" headphones have pumped up bass down to ~100Hz which dies off in the very low frequency ranges, which is NOT good because piano music frequently utilizes said low frequency ranges.

You actually want the frequency to be as flat as possible. The recordings have been mastered just fine, you shouldn't buy headphones that have huge amounts of bass, or treble, or midrange; you want everything equally. The goal is to listen to the music in its pure, unaltered form.

Exactly. In-ears tend to be very strong in the <100Hz range, which might look "bad" but in my experience they're the most accurate in the low price range. I think it's better to have slightly overboosted bass than dead bass (by bass I mean bottom octave of the piano low), which is pretty inevitably what you get for most cheap headphones.

when i do use headphones i use my high quality ipod headphones, which are pink.. that's all i can tell you. the quality is excellent. I need a converter,

I use Grado SR325is with my digital piano and hi-fi and portable CD player, unless I´m traveling, in which case I use my Klipsch Image X10i: quite amazing hi-fidelity for such innocuous-looking little earphones. But they are expensive.

I have a pair of Bose QC 2 noise-canceling headphones for flying, but though they sound great on aircraft and trains, they do have a coloring to the sound. They are the most comfortable headphones I´ve ever used, but the very soft foam on mine has started to break up after about 5 years of only occasional use. I also have a pair of closed AKG K 241 Mk II which came free with my DP: they don´t have quite an extended frequency response as the Grado but are very comfortable for extended listening. (The Grado open headphones do put pressure on the earflaps, which my head comes with...)

just recently did a bunch of research into headphones purely for playing my dp and found Sony MDR7506's to be the best value for the price ($85) depending on how portable and what-not you need them to be (for me its obviously not at all). I have Sony MDR-V6 over-the-ear and Sony on-the-ear MDR-V300 headphones for home use, but they're pretty bulky for mobile use with my iPod Touch or with my smart phone, particularly with their 9-foot (coiled in the case of the MDR-V6) cord. What I'm currently looking for is a compact, on-the-ear good quality headphones with a short single cord for mobile use.

If you want a pair of proper hifi headphones with sound quality that is faithful to the original , you will be well advised to steer away from the Dr Dire , and Scrap Candy type headphones and try something along the lines of the Sennheiser PX200 or something along those lines. They don't possess the coloration and terrible mid range distortion that the for mentioned headphones have.
