Every now and then things go amiss.

The other day for example daughter complained about a really nasty sound coming form the piano. The briefest of inspection revealed a single sheet of A4 paper had slipped into the piano and was resting on the dampers in the lower register. An easy problem to fix.

On other occasions a pencil has been known to fall behind the fallboard and rest on the back of the keys clattering around until I've fished it out again.

But - lately theres a been a quite irritating buzz coming from about an octave of the mid-low register (bottom half of bass clef stave). This weekend, I went on an investigative tour to see if I could find any stray objects causing the noise...
....as if by magic there - in the target zone - resting on the very back of a key was a single screw. About an inch long, a self tapping cross-headed screw in pristine condition.

I pulled it out and wondered where it came from - and then had a bit of a play of the target area - the buzz was still there! :-(

I now had 2 problems:
1) Where the heck did the screw come from? and was it important?
-and-
2) Whats making that infernal buzzing noise!

...so I considered this carefully whilst going about my day and then a few hours later returned to the piano. The buzz has gone.

I shall of course hold on to the screw and present my dilema to the tuner next time he comes - but its all a bit interesting!

LOL. No doubt the screw was holding in the piece that fell into the works and caused the buzz. And now that mystery piece is embedded even deeper inside, never to be seen again.
