i think it is from the 1880's
this is an authentic z&w according to the piano tech and he sells it for $2415 and he according to him it is....

85 keys

Newly key leveling and touch respond adjustment

Fully cleaned and regulated

Original sounding board ,no split no cracked and very intacked
Sounding board made from european spruce

Piano body made from solid oakwood

3 pedal is newly adjust and regulated

Newly oiling of centerpins and mechanism

Original bass and treble strings (guarrantee high quality steel),all strings are intacked

Piano mechanism is newly adjust, aligned, cleaned and oiling

100% not flooded

Nothing to fix,playable

Soft touch

Brilliant sound

I would just like to know if it is a good buy

P.S.
the piano is reconditioned....

Braunschweig - same place as Grotrian and Schimmel.

It would depend on condition, how well it plays and whether you like it. The market in Philippines is likely very different from here.

BUT - looking at the photos, IF it really was reconditioned, it was a long time ago, or hasn't been kept in an easy environment. And it has probably had a lot of playing, judging by the amount of wear on the sustain pedal.

The serial number, 29651, would seem to be from 1925. It is still an old piano. That would be very expensive for an upright of that age in the US.

How could we possibly know how the piano sounds or would sound?

Better than a Kawai? - No

To my knowledge, Zeitter & Winkelmann was a well-respected German brand. But as Alan wrote: at this age, everything depends on the condition. Does it hold a tuning, does it have a good, even sound from pp to ff, and is the action uniformly playable?

To me, the action in the pictures doesn't look "reconditioned". It may have been adjusted/regulated.

Also, I wonder what the tech means by "oiled". If he really used oil, I would run away.

Have you played the piano?

Oiling of centrepins. Definitely not normal practise. Do you know another technician. I'd be running from anything this technician was selling if he is oiling centrepins. If they're not smooth, you replace pins and bushes. (I notice on the advert in Sulit.com for this piano, it definitely talks about oiled centrepins.) It does sound expensive.

The Kawai may be a better choice - it should be much newer. But what does it sound like, what condition is it in. Kawai generally have been good pianos - some excellent. My brother now has the Kawai I learned on in the late 1960s, and it's still going strong - in fact, still looks like new.

Which of the pianos do you prefer playing?

Have you searched piano stores for other options? Don't rush into it.

I think he ment "lubricated" not "oiled".

Zeitter & Winkelmann from 1925 could be a very good piano, with a tone many would prefer to Kawai. See http://www.klanggestaltung-klavier-fluegel-stimmen.de/content/view/32/4/

Price?
