I bought the Roland FP4F last last week, been working great. Until recently, I noticed the Roland would be completely off when the power was ON. I would have to remove the power adapter, replug it back in and wait for it to work. However, now, it doesn't turn on at all.

I think the longest I've left it on was 2-3 hours, sometimes I forget to turn it off. Is it possible for the power adapter to overheat resulting in loss of power?

Power adapter doesn't feel hot, or warm. I tried plugging into other outlets, and I get no power. I've used other pianos that were on almost all day and all night, and they were still working the next morning.

I'm going to call the store I bought it from tomorrow, and see what can be done. Hopefully, it's just the adapter and not the piano.

Anyone with experience know what's up?

Are you sure the instrument isn't turning itself off automatically?

Modern Kawai DPs include an 'Auto Power Off' function in order to conserve energy, and I believe Roland models do the same.

If this is indeed the case, there should be an option or setting somewhere to change this behaviour. Perhaps double check the owner's manual if you haven't done so already.

Piano just turned on. Still going to call tomorrow, this isn't good.

Very disappointing in Roland.

edit: Found the culprit. The power supply is broken. If I move the wiring a certain way, it turns off, and on.

I bought a backup power supply for my Roland FP-4, that bizarrely causes the piano to reboot if a certain combination of patches is chosen (particularly Clav sounds split with organ). The only thing I can think of is that it is teetering on not providing sufficient power for certain settings. Maybe quality control needs to be beefed up at the (probably separate) power-adapter manufacturer's plant.

I was glad that it was a backup, and, more importantly, was external.

Yes, if 'wiggling' the power cable causes the instrument to turn on/off intermittently, it's most likely a power adaptor issue.

Easily sorted - just contact the store from where the instrument was purchased and ask them to send a new power adaptor.

Glad to know its just the power supply. For what its worth, my is connected all the time, and the piano can be on for 7 or 8 hours at a time without any issue, so I hope you get your issues resolved with a new power source.

Those power pods are dime a dozen imports ... don't blame Roland too hard, it hits everywhere unfortunately.

Don't feel too badly on this, as the cord and adapter can be replaced. As it sounds like the piano will be just fine with a new one!
