Kawai 1977 5' 10" Grand Piano

I am looking at an Ivory Kawai 1977 - 5' 10" Grand Piano for my 9yr old and I have no background in pianos at all. I can use all help from anyone that have experience with this particular piano. We are driving out this weekend to see it in person. I know there are a lot of unknowns, but assuming (and I hate to use this word) that it has been cared for… what should I expect to pay for this?
Owner is asking $3800... is that a good price? Unsure father

I'm not a professional, so my opinion's worth what you're paying for it.
I had a 1984 walnut 5'10" Kawai which I sold a year ago. If you will PM me, I'll let you know the price and more particulars.
I think Kawai was making a pretty good piano at that time. I was always pleased with mine.
An ivory piano should be harder to sell than an ebony or walnut, so you should not have to pay quite as much, IMO.
Also, are you buying from a private party or through a dealer? Dealers charge more but generally include moving costs and some kind of warranty.

It's pretty old... if you like it and can't find anything wrong with it, hire a tech to inspect it thoroughly and give you advice on its remaining longevity.

A piano tech I called and he told me that is not old for a paino! That I don't need him to look at it before I purchase...

Sorry, I can't find the PM I sent...disappeared into thin air. Don't have time to rewrite right now but will do so before the weekend when you go see the piano.
I strongly urge you to have a tech look at it before purchasing.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to get my info about my 1984 Kawai to you before the weekend. I do think the 1977 might be a good choice for your child. Please have a tech check it out. All else being equal, this is a better choice than the 5'1" Kawai you were considering. Good luck!
