I made new Alkan recording! I hope you enjoy it. I synced the sheet music and some images to follow along the audio.



You may notice one or two very small differences from what I play and the score. I think this score is incorrect, since the sheet music I actually played from is probably a more reliable publication.

An interesting piece and excellent performance. I wonder if the piece totally original or if Alkan based it on some synagogue melody?

Nice job. It's a piece that is not all that easy to interpret, even if it seems fairly simple on the surface.

Thank you, both of you. wr, I agree with you there. I've been reading through all the preludes, and it is such an amazing set of miniatures.

pianoloverus, William Alexander Eddie's (much too expensive, but still wonderful) book on Alkan says that "This prelude is undoubtedly derived from a Hasidic dance named Rikud."
