Thinking about buying a Yamaha C2 or C3. Other than size, are these models much different from one another?

Also, what should I expect to pay for a new C2 or C3?

Check Larry Fine's Book for the latest prices. As far as I know, the only difference between a C2 and C3 is the is the size and the price. There is a new C3X that just came out with some improved features that I don't think is yet available in a C2.

I could hear a nice difference in the sound when I played the C3, and since the C3 I played was more discounted from SMP than the C2, that's what I bought. I'm still thrilled when I practice on it every day.

I think there is quite a difference. A sales rep recently told me that what sells C3's, is having a C2 sitting next to it. All things being equal, tuning, prep etc. the C3 would be better than the C2. However, you really should check out the new C3X.

I almost bought a C2 especially liking the tone, touch, the form factor and more affordable price over the C3. However, after much hand-wringing, I got the C3X.

Yamaha transferred their new method of making the soundboard and supporting structures to the C3X but not to the C2X. That made a huge difference in the resonance and sustain of the two pianos. This additional difference pushed me over to the C3X.

Between a new C2X and a normal C3, I don't know. It would depend on the tone of the C2X. Would the new music wires and hammers alone without the new soundboard and supporting structures yeild that incredible 5th and 6th octave of my C3X? If so, I would probably take the C2X over a regular C3. It's not that I don't appreciate a bigger bass, but the treble and upper treble is even more important to me. I didn't have a chance to try a C2X, but very curious. Of course, a C2X would cost less than a normal C3.

The new C2X is available and out in showrooms.

The gentleman is real. He contacted me by phone at 1:40pm today. He travels western Pa. for business and does not have a dealer near his residence. We just took delivery of a C2X
