I have a Vietnamese adult beginner who has been taking lessons from me for almost 6 months. She is doing well but doesn't relate to any of the music in her method books. She didn't grow up listening to Western classical music, so playing an arranged version of Haydn or Beethoven isn't meaningful. She understands that to learn fundamentals and technique she needs to continue in these books but would like to supplement some pieces with Vietnamese songs. I've searched high and low on the internet and can not find a source that sells books or sheet music. I found this that I could use but it would be special to get her a book of songs. She mentioned Vietnamese Love songs...but I don't know where to go. Any thoughts?

There were several books in the book sale at my library. I'll take a look this weekend and if they are there I'll pick them up. They are usually .50 each. if anything I can send them media mail or scan the covers.

Hello there,

Below is a website with Vietnamese music arranged for piano. Most of these songs are considered Vietnamese classics, and well known by many Vietnamese. Perhaps she can pick what she likes from the list.

There are several Vietnamese bookstores in the US that sell songs arranged for piano if you're interested in purchasing a book for your student. Most of the books are arranged for guitars, but you'll find some piano arrangements there (look for the piano on the covers)

It's nice of you to go out of your way to find materials of interest to your students.

Good luck.

I have a two-hands arrangement of Long Me I'd be happy to send you if you want to PM me your email address. It is probably a level 2-3 or so (in Piano Adventures or similar). I arranged it for a Vietnamese student who wanted to learn it for her grandmother.

you maybe could find an arrangement of 'The Moon my Heart' I don't think it is Vietnamese - just a thought.

Apple, "Moon to my Heart" is Chinese, but it's very popular to Vietnamese people.

I was going to mention that but thought it would be too confusing.
