I thought this was a great fantasy depiction of a virtuoso pianist , that has never been on land--born and living upon an Ocean liner in the early 1900's. A really cool period piece--and great music throughout! He battles Jelly Roll Morton in a piano duel (where can I go to see a piano duel like that these days?) Tons of piano-porn--close up footage of Tim Roth caressing the ivories, and even some inside the piano footage of the dampers and strings while its being played. I don't think you could light a cigarette on hot strings though...you'll see. Looks like both pianos he's playing are Steinways--I think that upright is a "K"
If you haven't seen it--see it! If you have seen it, what did you think?

Excellent pic, nilla, worth seeing again.
No you can't light a cig on the piano strings, strictly a movie effect even if you beat Jelly Roll with those hot licks. I couldn't catch the name of the piano; I'm still wondering about that. My favorite scene was of the piano rolling around the ballroom floor as the ship pitched in a storm--- until it blew through the bulkhead into the captain's cabin. Whoops!

Here's an interesting article i just found regarding the brand of piano: http://dpbmss041010.blogspot.com/2011/05/legend-of-1900.htmlI guess its either a Bechstein or Chickering? I can't help but add this thought to the post: Can you imagine how badly those pianos must have gone out of tune?! I mean, no climate control in an ocean liner in the 1900's--I wonder of 1900 was a self-taught tuner as well The piano rolling around with the ship, although not very believable, was a very cool, classic scene.
