I always considered the age of my piano by when I purchased it -- only to realize that the serial number is the correct age.

I guess "new" pianos sit in show rooms for a few years, but are purchased as "new."

When would you consider a piano too old to be "new" when in the show room? It looks like my piano was 3 years since the date of manufacture before I purchased it. Or did I get taken?

Only if you really weren't the "original" owner - or if the piano was rented out for concerts or played extensively before being sold to you.

The serial number of my piano dates back to October 2003, but I didn't purchase the instrument until May 2006. I'm considered the original owner - and the manufacturer warranty became effective when I made the purchase.
