...WOW. This thing was gorgeous. Probably my favorite upright that I ever played. It'd been a while since I tuned an Astin, and I don't remember them being anything out of the ordinary, but this thing had a sound like velvet. Just a real deep, rich sound. As you can see, it left an impression. smile

I haven't seen too many Astin Weight pianos, but the ones I've seen have a very nice tone. I tuned a 50" upright which had a very rich sound and then I came across a console model for sale and bought it for my granddaughters. They've enjoyed it.

I guess it is the extra large sound board and the extra tall bridge that is required for the soundboard to be separate and extend up behind the pinblock, rather than being glued to it.

Have always wanted to see one. I do not think enough attention is given to the low frequency response of soundboards. I think that is what Del is doing with "loose footing" the bass, if that is what it can be called. And then there is that Kawaii gizmo with the electronically augmented bass that I read about.
