I need to find a few pieces:
-One complete work of Bach
-One sonata of Mozart or Beethoven
-One quick and one slow work of Chopin
-One piece of minimum 10 minutes
Help me please, thanks!

Pieces: La Campanella, Franz Liszt
3rd Movement of Sonata Pathetique, Beethoven
Op 32 no 1, Chopin
Working on: Lieberstraum no 3, Franz Liszt

Welcome to the Pianist Corner.

If you give your request some thought, you'll realize it's quite impossible to answer, because
- you don't tell us what level of difficulty you want to work on
- a complete work of Bach? Well, everything he wrote for keyboard is complete, except, perhaps for a few fragments
- Mozart and Beethoven wrote 50 Sonatas between the two of them - you are already working on one, it seems
- Chopin wrote any number of slow and any number of fast pieces
- and there must be hundreds of pieces, thousands perhaps, that run to a minimum of ten minutes.

Given that what you are looking for is standard repertoire - and you seem to have some familiarity with such repertoire - and that you give us nothing to go on, why not find these readily available pieces for yourself?

Moreover, given the fact that you list several pieces of moderate difficulty that you are currently working on, I have the very strong feeling that I'm feed a troll. If not, I apologize, but you certainly have to be more specific. That say that there's no such thing as a stupid question, but ....

Regards,

"Decent pieces to play in an exam."?

What exam? What level? What are the examination requirements?

Would you like suggestions for some indecent pieces that would specifically suit someone at your level?

Yes; do your homework!

Anyone hoping to enter as prestigious an institute as Curtis needs to be a fully competent and skilled musician with enough technical and performance background, artistic integrity and personal initiative that s/he does not need to post a vague list of requirements that asks strangers on an internet site what s/he might play for an audition examination.

You really have to be kidding, right? If not, then I think you have a great deal of work to do.

This, from their website, says it all :

The Curtis Institute of Music educates and trains exceptionally gifted young musicians for careers as performing artists on the highest professional level. It provides full-tuition scholarships to all of its students, ensuring that admissions are based solely on artistic promise. Curtis provides complete and diversified musical training, plus liberal arts courses.

From the Curtis website:

Quote
Piano

Applicants will play from memory:

a complete work of J. S. Bach
any Mozart sonata (except K. 545) or any Beethoven sonata (except Op. 49) complete
one slow and one fast selection from the works of Chopin for solo piano (no works of Chopin for piano and orchestra will be acceptable)
a major solo work (at least ten minutes long) of the applicant’s choosing

No substitutions for the above repertoire will be allowed.

How about a Prelude & Fugue? There are 48 to choose from.

OK, I'll bite...

A Bach Prelude and Fugue are standard audition material.

You're better off with a Beethoven Sonata than a Mozart Sonata for an audition at a major school, or so I've been told.

You'll definitely want at least one Chopin Etude, and a bigger work, like a Scherzo or Ballade.

I would add something 20th Century. For an audition at Curtis, Ravel's Miroirs would be suitable, I would think. You might also consider a set of Debussy Images, or a Scriabin Sonata.

Also, make sure you know your scales and arpeggios. I'm not sure if a place like Curtis is going to ask to see your scales, but if they ask to see F harmonic minor, it sure is nice to ask "3rds, 6ths, octaves, or 10ths?" wink

I think your teacher would be able to help you out better than anyone here could. If your teacher can't help you, find a new teacher!

Sorry, but this sounds to me like when I was thinking 40 years ago of learning some pieces to maybe apply to the Van Cliburn Competition. grin

You never told me that.. how'd it work out? wink

Every day we are afforded a new chance. The problem with life is not that you run out of chances. In the end, what you run out of are days.

My sense is that that is what is needed in this particular case.

How can someone applying to Curtis be asking anonymous internet posters for recommendations on repertoire?

Maybe we should be asking the OP for recommendations? I'm certainly not Curtis material.
