Dear Piano World friends,

It has been said that it is not good to share things on an internet forum that are of a personal nature. However, I feel that the Piano World forum is more than just an Internet forum… it is a community of individuals, friends and acquaintances with similar interests.

With that said, it is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of loss and bereavement to report that my 77 year old mother passed away yesterday. Though she was in the hospital being treated for a blood clot in her leg, her death was sudden and unexpected.

I can’t say enough good things about my mom… we have lost a beautiful and rare person who is irreplaceable. My mom and I were very close.

Please remember our family in your thoughts and prayers.

Deepest sympathy for your loss, sir. The world feels very strange for a while...emptier and less rich... I know the feeling. My father passed recently. We'll be in Washington DC in a few weeks for his burial in Arlington National Cemetary.

But, I think that the sudden loss you suffered makes it more painful. We, at least, knew that Dad was ill and were somewhat prepared. Having your Mom pass so suddenly and without warning is heartbreaking.

I keep stumbling over the simplest things I do; from tying my tie to polishing my shoes. All the daily habits and attitudes that I keep realizing were from my father's teaching. Just putting away the dishes or folding my damn socks brings Dad to mind.

You just don't realize how much of who you are is what you were taught as a child. Until you lose the teacher....

My mother passed away suddenly and unexpectedly 21 years ago; since that time, every time I hear of someone else going through this - it reminds me. I know how you feel.

Rick I'm so very sad for you in hearing this news about your mom. I lost my dad about 5 months ago. I think of him all the time. Like you and your mom we were very close. Back then I had considered coming to PW and posting because I feel a great deal of support here. In the end I didn't post but if I had I know it would have helped me. I am glad you posted here. I hope it helps you in some way. I'm sure it will. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I too am sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. My left 4 years ago after a battle with Alzhiemers.

Hang in there, it does get a little easier. But never easy.

Rick, I also send my deepest sympathy. I lost my great Dad not long ago. I'm not ready, at 57, to be the man of the family. Also, now I don't have him to call with all the news in my life. However, I'm certainly thankful that I had him in my life and I'm sure you feel the same way. BTW, I'd like to reach you Mom's age!

Thank you all so much for the kind words of comfort and consolation. And, thanks for all the PM’s. Yes, I do feel better, though still brokenhearted. There is suddenly a huge void in my life, but I know it will get better in time.

Mom bought me a good used piano about 7 years ago that got me interested in pianos. It was a Kohler & Campbell console upright. My 8 year old granddaughter has it now… still plays pretty good too.

Rick, so sorry to hear this. My own mother died 4 years ago, and I think of her so many times every day. I miss her every day. But you will continue. You will find pleasure again. You will think of your mother, not with sadness, but with pleasure.

Play the piano for her. I know she will hear you. The healing powers of music will help you too.

I'm so sorry to hear you lost your mother. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I lost my Mom about 8 years ago and my Dad 2 years ago. Losing my mother was one of the reasons I went back to playing piano. It did help me cope.

I want to thank everyone here at PW for their words of comfort, condolence and encouragement. As I said before, it means a lot to me.

I’ve spent the past week with my sister, who lived only a couple of blocks from mom, and my brother, who lives in Ohio. It hasn’t been easy, but having us siblings together during this time has been a lot of comfort and consolation as we grieve together over the loss of our dear mother.

As many here have said, mom will live on in our hearts and minds.

My condolences on the recent loss of your mother. My own mother passed away 35 years ago at the young age of 51 this past October 29th. She was my first piano teacher and instilled the love of music in me. I still miss her. She is a part of who I am and so she's not really totally gone.
