Just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. This forum is such a nice place to visit I decided to join in.
I'm a fairly new piano student(2+ yrs)and so enjoy this community. I have had some enlightenment from lurking here and hope I can contribute something as well. I study both piano and theory so I'm a true beginner

Welcome, Ragdoll! I used to hang around here about 6 - 12 months ago but dropped off thanks to assessments. I might be more active around December and January, but for now I've got a Cert. IV to finish. smirk
Still, it's a wonderful vibe here, isn't it?! Love it.

Well other than scales and Gb and Bb progressions & inversions, I'm just reviewing some holiday songs. Silver Bells, Holly Jolly Christmas and The Christmes Song.

I have always played (and learned) on a DP but recently acquired a beautiful Yamaha U1 which has a quite different touch and tone so trying to get used to the things that are different or should I say better. It's love I tell ya!

Hi Ragdoll,

I am new myself, but am truly a rank beginner. I still don't have a piano yet. :-) I love Silver Bells it's right up there with Do You Here What I Hear? with me, although I confess I have heard neither on piano. I think both would make excellent piano pieces.

I went from practicing on a DP daily to an acoustic a couple years back. About three or so week in, I began to do different things, experiment with different touch and expressions, a little more, a little less. I went back the DP and wonder if I couldn't have done similar things there, and yes, I could have, but never would have wanted to. Somehow practicing on an acoustic changed something for me; couldn't put my finger on it completely. I suspect you will soar now.

Interesting the difference between British and American English- I presume by rank beginner you mean absolute?
Here "rank" means something that has gone off (foodwise) laugh

There is no such thing as "american english" just "illegitimate use of the english language"

Not very well right now. My older brother passed away Sunday and I've been away for the funeral until last night. Got to the piano today and it was Ok but certainly not my best. Currently working on "Beyond the Sunset" because, well, just because it's very soothing.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I'll not answer all of them individually.

Yes, Ragdoll, so sorry for your loss. I hope your piano will continue to soothe in this difficult time.
