Greetings all!

Selling my N1 for $6,500 OBO. I'm moving out of my apartment and into a house...which means I'm FINALLY getting an acoustic. I don't care if it's an RX-1 or a C1 Yamaha, I want an acoustic. I've been considering a beautiful 5'10'' Schimmel, but not sure if the dealer wants to deal. Anyway, I've never owned an acoustic in the nearly 9 years I've been playing and now I've finally got the chance. If you're in the States, I will help arrange shipping. Please PM or email me me if serious.

I live in Nashville, Tennessee.

zaf511@gmail.com

Hope you all are well,

Get an RX-2 if you can swing it. Good luck with the sale!

You should specify where in the country you are. It makes a difference.

@PianoZac,

Sounds like a good plan to me and hope that you will find the piano that you want. Also, I would definitely shop around a bit to try out some grands firsthand to see what you like, as you shouldn't rush into a buy if you don't have to.

I do know that when one has some extra cash it is easy to purchase the first thing that comes along, although it might not necessarily be the best piano you can find, so be sure you are satisfied with the sound and the action.

Try saving your money until you can purchase a really nice Steinway!

And, congratulations on the new house!

I don't think you'll be happy with an RX1, even RX2 is borderline for somebody of your standard. Maybe find a slightly older RX3 or C3.

Good luck with your sale Zac (and house move) - I just sold my N3 for a Kawai upright and I'm quite happy I did and I'm sure you won't have regrets either. A grand will follow when I have the space. You've changed your name back!

You might find it considerably easier to trade in your N1 instead of selling it privately. Sometimes it's not worth the hassle.

Congrats, PianoZac! smile I'm sure you'll enjoy a lot your future new grand.

I also agree with the others: if you can afford it, I would buy an RX-2 or, even better, an RX-3. RX-1 is a very, very nice piano for it's size but you can't ask for more than what it offers: it's a small and weak piano with mediocre bass (among other issues).

@PianoZac,

I do agree with Dave here, as I traded in two pianos I had (one digital, and, an older acoustic) for the Kawai CA95.

It was easy for the dealer to carry out the two pianos and deliver the new one, all in one trip.

I agree as well -- the trade-in gives a creative dealer one more avenue to work with in putting together a good offer for you.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses. I'm trying to sell outright because I'm looking for larger used pianos and all the dealers in town don't seem to want to work with me if I'm trading my N1 on a used piano.

Seems to be a trend. I traded my N3 for a C3X.

Good man, good plan.

Enjoy your pianistic move, whatever acoustic you'll buy. It's all about music!

I take it you'll keep your nord for gigging?

Thanks Dave. I am definitely taking your advice. Been looking around. It's amazing how many more legit options there are just 4 hours south in Atlanta. Much bigger market.

Maurus, thanks man. I envy your SK-2! And Melodialworks your C3X, and Dave of course the Steinway D! Can't explain but I just play better on an acoustic (good condition of course). Good acoustic inspire me like no digital including my AvantGrand. This isn't a knock on the AGs, VPs, and all other high end DPs.

I think this applies to most of us... there is some 'strength' (not really volume, kind of like a 'mystical' power) behind the real thing.

Good luck selling your piano and getting a new one! And congrats on the new house as well.

Rafa.

Zach, you have my congratulations and envy.

Just last week I played a Steinway baby grand, 75 years old but well-voiced/regulated. Touch did not seem startlingly superior to the best digitals I have played -- but I'd forgotten how good the SOUND of a great piano can be -- so direct, so alive, and uniquely, incomparably acoustic. No amp/speaker system can approach it.

I join other posters in urging you: don't buy too soon, wait until you're convinced it's the one for you.

Wow. I just read this post and have to say I am not sure what to think!! I just bought a brand new N1 for $6000 out of pocket. It will be delivered tomorrow. I've been taking lessons for 2 years and I play classical. I thought the realistic grand action would be better for practicing -- and since I live in a condo, I appreciate the volume control and and the option to practice silently. When the dealer dropped the price for me, I felt I had to act. I've been renting a Yamaha upright from them (which is loud, and now out of tune). I agree there is nothing like an acoustic grand and I feel that I may eventually move in that direction.

You can get a lot of good work done on the N1. I practice more on my digitals (using headphones) than on my grand. The grand dominates the house, and people don't want to hear me practicing -- or, at least, I don't want them to. I want them to hear music.

If you ever find yourself wanting the AG to be more expressive, take a look at the free trial version of Pianoteq. (If you ever try that program out, you will need to adjust the velocity curve to deal with the AG's heavy touch setting, when used as a MIDI controller.) I use Pianoteq sometimes -- it is great for subtle articulations in classical music -- but usually I just flip the DP on and play and try to worry about the music more than the gear.

Thanks so much, kippesec. I've actually thought if my circumstances change, I wouldn't mind having both the N1 and an acoustic grand. Thanks for reminding me that this will be a good practice instrument -- and that I'll never have to be concerned that my neighbors are listening.

Agreed. Digitals are a poor substitute for a good acoustic when compared on an absolute scale, but at the same time, if I had a good acoustic I would very seldom use it. My schedule and family situation just doesn't lend itself to me making that kind of racket in the house during the hours when I am available to play.
