My son attended IUPA last summer - loved it and had a wonderful experience!! He is considering returning this summer, but I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for good piano "camps," programs, etc. Particuarly those that might be suited to a rising senior who may or may not be getting college level auditions ready. I am aware of Brevard and Eastern, but I didn't really know if these were primarily for college students? What sorts of things should one look for in a summer piano program? We chose IUPA based on some wonderful (and very spot-on) reviews here. Just wanting to make sure we are aware of what else is out there.

Thanks in advance.

I did Centrum's chamber music workshop several years ago in Port Townsend and loved it. Mark Salman was on hand (one of the favorites on this board) to coach the pianists, as well as the members of the Cypress String Quartet.

When I come out of the busy stretch that I've entered, I'll post here or PM - I have some words about quite a few of the major high school festivals, as well as some that are lesser-known.

A few criteria you should perhaps establish for those wishing to comment are : your location, how far you are willing to let your son travel and for how long. Keep in mind, too, that not all summer piano programs offer adult supervision outside of lessons and classes for under-age students. That may or may not be an issue.

Regards,

Regards,

I would prefer that ds stay within the US - otherwise, distance does not matter. We are in a Southern, centrally-located state. Besides his stint at IUPA last summer, he also did an EPGY program at Stanford last year. He has also done summer programs in Texas and N.C. Distance does not matter, but I would not be willing to let him go overseas by himself at this juncture.

I would prefer "some" supervision. I guess I wouldn't want ds to be allowed to wander around in a big ol' city all by himself. But, if there was a requirement that students travel in packs (of three, as an example) while off-campus, I would be okay with that.

Does that help? Thank you for pointing out these issues. smile

ETA: Oops - clearly I don't get the quotin thing very well. I meant to quote Bruce.
