I just found out tonight that there's a metal plate behind the bottom cover/panel on my Kawai K5 upright piano. the bottom cover/panel doesn't go up the way up (there's about an inch gap/opening below the keyboard), and then there's a metal plate behind the gap/opening. Just curious if this is the standard design for most of hte upright piano nowadays?

The gap at the top of the bottom board is standard. You have to lift it to get it open. Filling the gap is something that some manufacturers do, but not all.

Thanks BDB! does the metal plate has any function to the sound production at all? I'm just starting to be curious about the make and parts of a piano.. thanks!
