Hello PW, I have to revisit every now and then just to remember my password. I just have to say my experience on PW was the best ever, people take time to answer your questions, experts give free advice, people treat newcomers with respect.

I can't say this for many other forums I have been on, non-piano forums, I have been on many drum, cymbals, studio, DAW, etc forums and nobody beats the knowledge, kindness, patience that PW displays. Just had to say that. I miss being here with my limited knowledge but I am happy with my purchase and had no issues so I really don't have much to say but THANK YOU.

Peace,
Aliwally

there are more choices for cymbals than pianos, and it can take many many years to assemble a collection of cymbals that are well matched with each other and for specific applications.

It's called Cymbalholics. It is very intense but still not as intense as PW.

You be surprised how drumstick weight, tip, length, etc effects different cymbals, also it is a great site for buying and trading old Zildjian K cymbals which are the most sought after cymbals around. You have a few Master Cymbal makers (Roberto Spizzichino is widely considered to be the greatest cymbal smith ever from Italy, he passed away last year) where a single cymbal could cost over $1000.00.

There are also guys like Matt Bettis, Steve Hubback, and Matt Nolan, who can take cymbals you own and re-hammer them to sound as clones of great cymbals. There is also a guy named Craig Lauritsen in Australia who makes great custom Turkish and secondhand cymbals.

You also have boutique cymbal shops that sell cymbals from dealers like Bosphorus, Istanbul Agop (Turkey), Meinl (Germany), Paiste (Switzerland), on top of that you have Zildjian (America, and Sabian (Canada), so yes, it’s a lot to talk about but not as intense as pianos.

Aliwally, I agree with you here...

The PW forums are the greatest!

I don't really participate in any other online forums, but I used to participate in an antique farm tractor forum. I learned a lot there and was able to pass along some knowledge that I had acquired over the years.

Pianos are a lot cleaner than antique farm tractors. smile

Entheo, nice cymbals man. Jack Dejohnette is my favorite drummer hands down, I play Bosphorus Turks myself I love that Dry thing like Jack, more percussive and does not overpower, speaks fast and gets out the way. Those Encores are much better then the original Jack signatures which only he could make sound good because they was SUPER DRY..LOL.

Here is vintage Jack on some very old K's, new back then but played, and a very young Keith Jarrett.

ali, i not only love the way the encores sound but the way they sound together. beautifully matched.

'course, there are tons of guys who had/have wonderful sets; who can forget elvin's Ks when he played with 'trane; and that great gretsch sound, too...

In the "Cymbal Forum", can you talk about any subject or say anything you want without re-percussions??

They have moderators but I have never seen anything like on PW when things get crazy, that is why I like PW better. The other forums seem boring to me, also your questions on the cymbal forum sometimes don't get many hits if you are a newcomer.

I think I read one post where a guy got removed, also there is some competition among sellers which gets crazy.

The site was not allowing new people at one time, did not know what that was about but I do know there are more drummers of all levels than pianist in this world.

I see drummers as basketball, football, and baseball players, you can pretty much play a beat without much training. Pianists are more like golfers, you can't just pick up a club and start swinging.
