Cheer a bit for me; I just bought my first piano and can't play a note. I've got a teacher lined up for when I take delivery. I bought a cheap piano because after much shopping, I realized I was unqualified to choose a good one. I'll trade up in a couple years or so. It's a Gerhard Heintzman out of China, 50" upright and I paid $4100 Cdn with taxes, delivery and a year of included maintenance, ten year warranty. The piano sounds OK and has a light, controllable movement so I hope it's OK to learn on. I should have asked you first but, what do you think, good deal or big mistake?

Nothing like the joy of getting a new (or new-to-you) piano!

Malkin is right, what matters most is what you think.

Plus, a 50" upright should have a nice low bass.

Congratulations!

Rick

According to Wikipedia, Heintzman pianos have a rich history. It might be interesting for you to do some research and find out a little about your piano. Based on the serial number when and where was it built, etc.?

Here is a link containing some history and some serial numbers:

Post a picture. Enjoy playing and learning. smile

Hi 2latewise,

Congratulations on your new piano and welcome to Piano World!

People are assuming that this is a used piano and not one of the new Gerhard Heintzman pianos. My reading is that it is new and would certainly be a very acceptable piano for a beginner. You did just fine! The price you paid is very competative, so you should have no regrets about your purchase.

Enjoy your new piano and good luck with your lessons!

Congratulations. Enjoy your new piano--with a little practice and some lessons, this will be one of the most rewarding decisions you've ever made! My wife's grandmother actually left her a Gerhard Heintzman player piano from the 1910-20 era which we still have, but that is a different piano altogether as you know. Your piano shares only the name. (Yours will definitely sound a lot better than my wife's beat-up heirloom!) Again, enjoy!
