The Bach is not perfect of course but I am very proud of my student.

She successfully passed the exams and is now s student of high-school graded music school where she is learning musicology. She also had the piano exam.

The school is one of the best in Estonia. Most from that school go to the Estonian Music Academy after graduation. It is the music school named after Georg Ots, a famous singer of Estonia.

I think you are a gifted teacher and pianist Jaak. I enjoyed your videos on your blog- you express yourself wonderfully regarding learning the piano and your English is very good.

I was about to start Bach's invention #13, but printed this one out instead to try out next. (I was inspired by your student )

After toying around with it tonight, perhaps I should have chose Invention 13 instead - this is very difficult, and long, and dense with material!



I'm inspired by the discovery of this piece! But this piece clearly requires a LOT of time from us adult beginners to get right, like your student.

Congrats to her for putting in the time to memorize it and play it very well.

BenPiano, yes the Partita no 3 is not an easy one. It took her a long time to practice and it is not perfect yet. We also went through different easy pieces with her. Before that she played for example: her playing

That was after 5 months of learning.

Jaak, I went on your site and had a look at your introductory lessons. Often teachers (especially on-line) will emphasize how to play a piece of music or how to play common chord progressions and add the melody - they concentrate on the notes. You concentrate on something that is much needed and largely missing: the details of the first motions we do, that we actually do every time that we sit at the piano and play anything. Having been self-taught, these are the things that I need to weed out right now. What I especially liked is the time you took on each thing, stage by stage, and from different angles. What an experienced musician or teacher can see at a glance, we need time to absorb. It is so easy to misinterpret what we see, especially if it's from just one angle. I am not a knowledgeable pianist - I'm learning. But because I'm working on these things with my own teacher, I've learned to look. The students in your clips seem to be playing with comfortable motion afaik, and their playing works. I really liked what I saw. In fact after seeing things on the Internet, it was a relief.

i'm currently working on this piece, i just need to record and upload. I like the way she plays it, good job. Only thing, when the left hand hits the B octave in the 2nd part of the piece it should be Forte and I didn't really hear much change from playing P
