What is the approximate average(or even better median)price paid for a new grand in the U.S. in 2012(or 2011)?

On a closely related note, in 2011 what were the approximate total sales for grand pianos in the U.S. and how many were sold?

If you have similar figures for verticals those would be interesting also.

I can't begin to say that I'm an expert on this. But I am going to guess that sales were sharply down from 2005, and sharply down from 10-20 years ago. The latest data I could find on any related topic was 2007.

Extrapolating from it, I would guess that there were between 14-18k new grand pianos sold, and 20-24k new vertical pianos sold.

I would guess the average cost of a new vertical around $3500, and the average cost of a new grand around $13,500. If you were wondering how I came up with my numbers: this puts the total market at $260-330M, which is the range I expect based on the only data I could find. Also figured around 40% grand-to-vertical ratio. (Was 44.5% on the data I could find, but I assumed it also decreased since 2007.)

Again, this is heavily extrapolated data based on guesstimates. I couldn't find any solid information, and I am not "in the industry" so-to-speak. But I hope it's a decent estimate.

Would definitely like to hear anyone on the "inside" comment.
