Morning all!
Songs of 2011...
SBTRKT has moved somewhat away from his bass/club roots in his first album, towards a much poppier feel - feel the width of that pop mass market! Can't blame him really - but for me his Wildfire was one of the stand-out tunes of last year. The singer is Yukimi Nagano from Swedish modern beat combo Little Dragon.
I love the way the bass and the voice weave together, particularly in the opening.

Hi!
I’ve been listening to the last posts.
Aimee, I also love Carnival of the Animals. Very good selections!
Griffin, I loved that video of Joshua Bell performing “Volcaliseª, but I especially enjoyed your final post. Jessye Norman is absolutely outstanding. What a powerful and expressive voice!
Rossy, I liked the video of your subscriber; she looks to be a talented pianist. It’s a pleasure to listen to young people playing piano with talent.
Eglantine, it was interesting to listen to so recent song. I always find this thread very informative.

Hi Everyone! I'm planning to listen to these posts later. It seems I'm busy lately with catching up with old friends at home. I'm also catching up on some intensive piano practice since I have this extra time during the holidays. I'll post on Tuesday, however. Enjoy your Monday!

Sometimes, things all jell and just go right, not often, but when they do, even if its for other folk, it can be magical... here is an excellent instance of being in the right place at the right time....
I feel so happy for these guys....

Hello Everyone! sorry I've been so scarce today. I seem to have a lot of chores to do while I'm home on vacation. Frankly, I wasn't sure what I'd post today. However, I recently heard this selection from my friend Louis. I enjoyed it and will share it with you today. I usually hold off posting unfamiliar music until I've had time to do more research. However, I am making an exception today.
Here is Rahat Fateh Ali Khan & Jayat Singing "Teri Yaad." Enjoy!

Cool griffin, thanks, I have allways wanted to have a go on one of those instruments that the guy is pumping with one hand.. I dont know what they are called though, but I have seen a few people playing them..they look like a good busking keyboard. wow eastern scales are interesting arent' they? thats why I love dead can dance as they use many scale systems that are unfamiliar. wonderfull.

Yes, the eastern scales are very interesting. I have a few more that I'll post at another time. I'd really like to learn more. I'll be back in a few minutes with another post.

Ok Griffin., because we stopped up all night again and slept during the day, it means we cant go shopping. ( no shops open at night here) So, we had to make do with three rounds of cheese on toast topped with the last two eggs each!! We gotta get this together , as we are running out of food.. There are some potatoes that have seeded in the cupboard, 2 rashers of bacon, and some emergency packet soups. and about six slices of bread. And a tin of squirty cream. I onion and three peppers.
Not a selection that can be all put togther for anything wholesome, i am sure you will agree. lol.

Quite a challenge for those in search of healthy food! lol. Our eating habits have changed drastically over the last 20 years. Many of those items (particularly the cheese and eggs) would have been standard in our house. They are delicious. However, my body now punishes me in wierd ways if I over indulge.

Great stuff, Griffin.
I tend to prefer the stuff his uncle - Nusrat Fateh - used to do, Qawwali music.
Here's Shamas ud doha, Badar ud doja!, my favourite tune from perhaps Nusrat's best album, Shahen Shah.
The album was - curiously - recorded in Wiltshire, not in his native land (for Peter Gabriel's Real World label at the RW studios).
I saw Nusrat together with his Qawwali party perform in London in the early 80s and it was truly electrifying, so I got this album as soon as it came out.
Factoid: Nusrat Fateh had quite a close relationship with Birmingham, after having signed with an artists' agency there, and played many UK concerts in and around Birmingham, as well as in west London (Southall etc.)

I LOVED the Sushi Club, Eglantine! I had never heard this before. I'm going to want to hear and see more. I will have to view the Nusrat Fateh post later when I'm at my desktop computer. My friend also recommended I check out his music.
Now about Rossy's food posts...let's just say the last report on his inventory did nothing to make me feel hungry! I'll be back shortly with a few tunes.
