ClassicFM radio programme.

What would you deduce? ...

if the youthful host was to introduce a piece of keyboard music with the words

It’s called “Chopin’s Fantaisie Impromptu in C# minor “.

No prizes for the correct answer.

I would deduce that there are probably also Fantaisie Impromptus of Chopin in other keys.

Or, that the name of the piece is literally "Chopin's Fantaisie Impromptu in C# minor."

But absolutely I'd deduce that this guy doesn't know much more about classical music than the emcee in this thing:

Coming from Classic FM that doesn't surprise me anymore.
I heard a couple of years ago them talking about a baroque era composer, later they announced the piece and they also told us the piece was going to be performed by the composer himself...

Too true GeorgeB ... another of those sraight-up-and-down guys who drivel "I only work here!".

But then it takes years and years to be as musically clever as you and I.

Ouch!! That has to be absolutley the WORST rendition ever of the "share-zoe". Chopin must be spinning in his grave. It sounds like a kid, or maybe a monkey, hitting the keys at random just to see what kind of noises will happen!

Could be Enron.

In any case, it may be that she can play the piece fairly adequately, but was asked to shorten it to fit into the time allotted, and that, combined with the pressure, threw her off.

(Or it could just be what passes for culture in Texas! My two little brothers are Texans, so I know what it is like!)

Glad to see the Sherzzo surfacing again smile I just played this perennial PW favorite for my wife. By about 15 seconds in she was wondering if Miss Gulf Coast was going to be gonged.

That's exactly what is said to be the story.

I'm still not buying this story until someone produces a video.

I don't buy it either...
If she could play the piece adequately, she would already have uploaded a video to YouTube or any other site to prove her critics wrong.

It could be she's really a good musician and was just fed up with the whole beauty pageant thing, and played it like that as a way of giving the bird to the whole enterprise. Maybe I'm just trying to be generous, but it could be.

I think Damon's "not buying it" is different from yours -- I think he doubts that this posted audio is for real at all.

Oh, OK. But wouldn't she have protested if this was the case? I mean, wouldn't you be angry if they did this to you? There are "shreds" on YouTube, but usually people know they are shreds. In her case there are so many speculations and she never said anything (not as far as I know). Maybe somebody should finally ask her! smile
