#1988589 - 11/19/12 03:33 PM Help: Where to source a lid prop for an upright piano?

Loc: A North Atlantic Island former...
I have an upright piano with a split top lid and am looking for a lid prop so that I can open the lid at around 45 degrees to deflect the sound outwards.

At the moment I am using a wooden clothes peg to hold it open, but despite searching online and asking my piano supplier if he could source one for me, I have come up short.

Can anyone suggest a potential supplier?

With thanks in advance,

P.

Thanks Guapo. Even though they specify a minimum spend of 20 bucks and this small part will be heading across the Atlantic, I'll try to contact them and see if they respond.

Or you could cut a stick and drill a hole for a mounting screw in it to do the same thing.

That short lid prop will lift the lid about 2 inches, which is nowhere near the 45 degrees you are looking for. BDB has the right idea. If you want to get fancy, buy a length of 1/4" (6 mm) brass rod to use as a prop.

Or contact a local woodworker to custom make one for you. There are lots of amateurs who would be able to make something that would not only be functional but would look nice, and would not be terribly expensive, I would imagine.

It depends how close you put it to the hinge.

Well, a stick is better than a clothes peg, and a brass rod is better than a stick, and perhaps a custom made wooden prop is best of all ... All great suggestions! Many thanks!
