FYI,

I tried to open the thread “Is it worth pay 25% to upgrade a 48” upright to a 50”?” and it would not open for me… this has happened before, and I think it has to do with using the % sign in the title of the thread (or maybe the “ sign?).

In fact, the thread can’t even be opened for moderation or deletion (at least on my computer system). This doesn’t happen often, but it does happen on occasion. I suppose it is some kind of conflict with the programming language, but I’m not a computer expert.

I like for Piano World to run as smooth a silk, but you know what Murphy’s Law says… smile

Happy Thanksgiving Eve, everyone!

Rick,

[Edited because I found a workaround]

The problem is in the percent sign in the title. This link to the 25 Percent Thread will get you into the thread.

The fix was to replace the percent sign in "25%" with the escape code &.

Andy

Thanks a lot, Andy!

I did get into the thread via your workaround link, but still couldn't edit the % out of the title for some reason. I sent the OP a PM and maybe they can fix it...

Ken Knapp, our chief forum administrator (besides Frank Baxter) has struggled with a few of these kinds of programming glitches before... they can be stubborn.

Thanks again,

Rick

It looks like Steve Cohen got through somehow. I guess if a bad guy makes a bad request, the software accommodates. grin

Yes, Steve knows all the PW secrets... that's a consultant's job, I guess. smile

The forums have had this bug for quite some time. Usually, it merely causes the "jump to latest unread" feature not to work. Failure to quote special characters can lead to more serious consequences, such as "cross-site scripting" (abbreviated "XSS") attacks, where an attacker can exploit the bug to gain access to members' logged-in session cookies, or worse.

In this case, it appears to involve a flaw in some sort of Search Engine Optimization plug-in that appends an excerpt of the thread topic to the URL, but fails to encode it properly.
