Dear forum

I'd like to share the wonderful piano recital I've heard tonight at Lucerne (Switzerland) Concert Hall: Paul Lewis played Schubert's three latest sonatas: c minor, A Major, B Major.
Even now, I'm still at a loss of words to describe this wonderful concert. I was lucky to sit in the front row on the left, so I could see his hands during the whole concert. His technique is flawless and you could tell that he was completely at ease with the beautiful Hamburg Steinway D. His sound was gorgeous and the range of colours and dynamics just unbelievable. The second movement of the A Major sonata was so touching that I got tears in my eyes (I wasn't the only one), I can't remember that this has ever happened to me before.
This is certainly one of the concerts in my life which I'll never forget.

That sounds like a great concert! (...if not terribly creative). I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. I've only heard the final sonata live (B-flat by the way), played by Cyprien Katsaris, and it was quite magnificent smile

Lewis played that same distinguished program here in Toronto a few weeks ago, in a recital hall seating about 500. Regrettably I wasn't there, but musician friend reported serious and captivating playing.
