My wife, daughter, and myself visited Cunningham's in Germantown on Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving. Rich was his usual gracious self in showing us around and the Viennese Bosendorfers as well as a Steinway with Standwood action. Also the concert model of the Cunningham was there as well. Also tried out the latest Rodgers digital organ. Thanks to Rich on a day before a holiday for showing us Texans around.

Hey Rick,

It was so good to see you as well. For those who do not know, Rick has taught music in El Paso schools for 30+ years and is now OFFICIALLY retired!

His daughter attends a masters program at a college here in the Philadelphia area, so this is my second time meeting Rick (and he is quite enjoyable to spend time with). We both took a few pictures, but since Rick already said he needs help putting his up here, I will post a few.

Rick and his lovely wife enjoying a Cunningham concert grand piano. This piano has become a familiar rental instrument here in Philadelphia.

Rick is actually equally at home on a fine organ as he is on a piano and he took a little time to sample the Infinity Series of the Rodgers organ. Through our in house sound system this model of Rodgers is very impressive. We both particularly enjoy this instrument.

Rick also spent some time with Jason Andino and watched him work on drilling out a pinblock and on a new soundboard for a Steinway A. They chatted a bit and both seemed to enjoy their talk.

Here is Rick, his lovely family... and my ugly mug... all posing around a beautiful Bosendorfer concert grand model 280 in a limited edition cabinet. The piano is a sheer joy to play and hear.

Rick, I am so pleased you surprised me by stopping in with your family. They are truly wonderful people and I hhad a good time with them. Finally, I want to say that you are welcome anytime - to audition some wonderful pianos and organs, to speak with our staff and learn more, or just to stop by and chat with a friend! thumb

(I hope your daughter's Thanksgiving dinner was fantastic!)

Absolutely shocking that anyone would innocently click on a thread about a visit to Cunningham's Piano and then have their tender sensibilities assaulted by some photos of, um, a visit to Cunningham's Pianos.

I was delighted to see the photos and appreciate Rich's efforts in posting them.

Thanks, Rich, for posting those for me. It is so refreshing to play such beautiful instruments that are so well prepped. The Cunningham store is so historical in a beautiful setting, next to a picturesque Episcopal church. The factory is something that is so "old world" as well. Where craftsmen take pride in their work. I do appreciate Rich taking time to show us around and post my pics ( sorry, I can't seem to get them the right size or in the right place :-( ) My advice to any other PW forum members, if you have a chance, stop by and see all the goodies in the store. I felt like a kid in a candy store.

P.S. The concert grand Cunningham was amazing piano. Very similar to the Mason - Hamlin sound and touch.

I thought this was a "family rated" forum.
Oh, wait a minute! You meant the OTHER kind of escort....

At least in my experience, parking very close to the store is nearly always available, and I have never felt that the area immediately around the store is a problem. I have been there numerous times and never been worried given that I have always been able to park very close by, at least sometimes amid a crowd of churchgoers. If someone visits Cunningham's and is at all concerned, I would be willing to bet that Rich or Tim would be happy to walk them back to their car.

I loved the photos of the visit. I continue to believe, however, that Rich has found some fountain of youth somewhere. It is terribly unfair that he never appears to be any older.

So I guess one has to conclude that you think T's comment was appropriate and not as I described it.

This thread was posted with good intentions from RickG1. Many members here have posted threads about positive visits they have had at various piano dealers, both member and non-member dealers.

Rich Galassini with Cunningham is somewhat of a celebrity here on Piano World and deserves some respect. He may well get some overexposure here, but he did not initiate this thread.

Why don’t we just enjoy the pictures with all the smiling faces… music is supposed to be fun and put smiles on our faces. smile

There is no need for this thread to turn ugly.

Rick

Those of you that live on either coast are fortunate to have a greater selection of quality instruments from which to chose from. Here in El Paso, we have only ONE dealer here, Washburns, that carry accoustic pianos. They have mostly Yamaha and Kawai. When I was a kid growing up here, there were 6 dealers including 2 Hammond organ studios. Therefore, going to a place like Cunningham's is a true tourist destination for a musician that appreciates quality. I have also visited Alex Hernandez and his store in Sacramento which is also a great place. Others stores in Austin and Chicago have also been fun places to visit. Someday, I would like to visit Steve Cohen, Norbert, Keith Kerman, and many other PW dealers if the opportunity arises. It just so happens that Cunninghams is very convenient Narberth where my daughter lives, especially cutting through Fairmount Park. I have learned SO much from people like Rich, Steve, Kieth and others here. It is a pleasure to be able to talk to them in person and see and play their instruments.

This is a sensible post. I have no problem with this thread, although it does concern me that there are other members who are in the same business who offer the same excellent service as Rich does who are not treated nearly so well if they mention their products or business. Norbert in particular, who is very generous with his time and advice, would not be allowed to have such a thread as this, regardless of who started it. So lets allow all our respected dealers the same rights. They are all very useful to the forum because they can give us very real feedback on aspects of the piano industry that we would just be guessing about if they weren't here.

I see no point in keeping score in terms of which dealer members get better treatment here on PW. As far as I’m concerned, they all get preferential treatment in some form or fashion.

On the other hand, their contributions to the forum are invaluable and I appreciate them all… that doesn’t mean they won’t take advantage of an opportunity when it comes along.

Since it has been mentioned that some here think Norbert is discriminated against and doesn’t get the same treatment as Rich or other dealer members, I disagree. Hey, Norbert is a celebrity here on PW too! smile

But, human nature being what it is, there is no way to please everyone.

Why don’t we pull the plug on this one and leave well enough alone. No offence to anyone.

Rick
