Happy birthday to not my all time favorite composer, but the composer that holds a very unique and special place in my heart even the greatest composers don't!! Mainly due to Alkan's freshness, lol.

I certainly understand, and much the same way I feel about Franck and Elgar... in addition to Alkan.

Franck thought highly enough of Alkan to dedicate his largest organ composition, the Grande Pièce Symphonique to Alkan. If not his greatest organ work, it paved the way for the organ symphonies of Widor and Vierne, and basically jump-started the French organ school which had been moribund by the rather slap-dash music of Lefébure-Wély and the often humdrum music of Guilmant.
