I would like to be able to accompany myself (at home) with some soft drum rhythms for light jazz ballads.
I know nothing about drum machines, etc ...
I would like something that is very simple and straight forward to use.
Free is good but not necessary.
Is there anything like that around ?

I recommend Band In A Box - it is a terrific jazz practice tool. Very easy to use and very versatile. Recently I have started using the woodshed feature - I start a tune like Four at a slow tempo and after every chorus the tempo increases by 5 until it reaches 230 then decrease by 5 until it gets to the starting tempo - it's a great feature.
If that is too high tech - try the various Jamey Abersole and other play along CD's out there.

Thanks for the replies, guys.
My situation has changed a bit now as I have purchased a DP which has the drum and bass sounds built in so I no longer need an external source for that.
Thanks

Thanks a lot for this recommendation! I've just been thinking recently about something like that just for fun and try as I'm beginner and don't have DP here. Looks like forum was again helpful, thanks to you!
