I bought some (DENRO TUNING PINS Nickel with Blued Threads) and I've noticed that the threads feel rough like 200 grit sand paper.








The other pins I have laying around all have smooth threads.

My concern is that the rough threads will wear the pin block prematurely.

Or dose the blue coating smooth out after driving them in.

I'm planing to use them in a new pin block.

Any feedback is appreciated.

One way to think this through is that these tuning pins are installed in hundreds of thousands of pianos. Why would you think you are going to have a problem?

This is not my favorite brand of tuning pin, but you can be confident that they will accomplish their intended purpose for decades. Proceed with confidence.

I never have seen that, is not the blue coating the normal undercoat (they are blue pins that are nickel plated).?
Will you mike them?

Nickel plated, then the threads are cut, and the threads are blued, like other pins.

I did not see pins blued after threading but before, did not pay much attention but those Denro pins are uncommon here.

Bluing is done before threading it can be seen on those as well.

Ah I recall that conversation, have seen it yet. All the pins I use have smooth threads, what count to me is the precision in diameter and the elasticity of the metal.

The best pins to me are the Klinke "diamant" , the Biene are also good but the kinke are more springy. The Japanese NKG pins are somewhat soft in comparaison.

since a few years i consider the pin is acting in the tone way more than it is imagined.

Miking a box of pin gives generally 2 or 3 diameters but on the good brands there is much consistency, so the miking is just to avoid too small ones in the basses.

Miking is not as precise as it is thought, as the diameter may differ in different portions of a pin, no need to be too picky there (with the best pins, which are not really cheap also)
