Hi. When I asked about the price of an HP-505, he asked me what finish. I told him and he said good choice, it's the less expensive. I chose rosewood because I saw another DP in rosewood that looked ok, and I was afraid the satin black would look like crap and the glossy black would be too formal or fancy for our family room.

But, why are some finishes different prices? It's just composite material, right?

I posted in the other thread. Roland's satin black finish is our best seller, but we do offer choices. The satin black and rosewood have the same retail prices. The gloss finish is much more expensive to produce and adds $1000 to the retail price.

The satin black and rosewood are composite laminates, but the gloss finish is thick. The finish adds ~4.5 lbs to the weight. That thickness makes scratches and dings more repairable.

It looks like you've wandered into the furniture section of digital pianos ... don't try to reason about furniture prices, lol. It's about the formal glossy look, and the customers who tend to buy them.
