Hi All!

I don’t get out much or socialize as much as I’d like due to certain circumstances, but I was able to attend a piano party today with a fellow Piano World member, Sam Smith.

Sam just finished rebuilding a 1920's C. Bechstein baby grand and christened it officially today with a piano party. Sam lives about 50 miles away and I was able to spend some time at his place. I got to hear some high quality classical music as well as some great bluegrass music. Plus, I got to show off my meager playing skills with some oldies rock-n-roll. smile

The freshly rebuilt c. Bechstein sounded fantastic with a broad variety of music played on it. I had a fantastic time! Thanks, Sam!!!

Here are some pictures… by-the-way, I had permission to post the pictures of the host and guests.

Rick

Here are a couple of pictures of the Bechstein...

Piano Parties... Isn't that something from the 1930's? Great to hear they are still fun.

The C. Bechstein looks great!

Great Job Rick,

Always happy to see people enjoying a piano party.
And the Bechstein looks wonderful.

Kathy and I hope to be hosting some ourselves next year (New Englander's, you've been warned :-)

Way cool. Rickster, you and Sam are both fine pianists, it must have been a lot of fun. And he did an awesome job on the Bechstein. Did it play as good as it looks?

Thanks, Plowboy and all.

And, yes, the C Bechstein sounded great, and the action was very good. Also, Sam and Laurie have a nice place out in the country. (And I thought I lived in the country... smile )

Thanks Rick, we had a great time. We had 12 people, with half being performers and half audience - one dedicated audience member for each performer!

Rick really plays and sings very well. Don't let his modesty fool you! And he doesn't need any music smile Here's a picture of Rick playing and singing "Georgia on My Mind" while my old friend Tom plays blues harmonica.

Can't wait till next time Rick!

A home which revolves around music! Could anything be better?

The piano looks great and I'm sure the party was a great deal of fun.

Thanks for sharing the occasion with all of us.

This is great! The Denver piano parties have been so much and I'm glad to see it's catching on in your neck of the woods. The Bechstein's beautiful, Sam! I've seen the videos of Rick playing and he and the harmonica are my kind of music. Well, and Laurie and Sam on recorder and harpsichord. I would love to have been at that one.

Hm. Maybe we should take piano parties on the road. You know, New England could come to Denver, and Denver could go to Florida, and Florida. . .

They are wonderful photos and what a great way to get like-minded people together! It's also good to put names to faces. The restored Bechstein looks amazing and from your reports, sounds fantastic.
There was a piano party here in Auckland about 9 years ago, but as far as I am aware, that Piano World member is no longer posting. I think that I am the only reasonably regular poster on Piano World in Auckland. Maybe it's time to open a new chapter...

Thanks again for the photos and the party catch-up.

Kind regards,

Robert.

Beautiful piano, beautiful home, sounds like a wonderful party! It's nice to see that Sam and his lovely wife, Laurie, both enjoy and perform.

Rickster - thank you for posting!

We'd love to know about the Denver parties as we're up in that neck of the woods part of the year. I had written someone several months ago about parties in the Dallas area (volunteering to host) but have gotten no response.

The Denver parties are usually discussed in the Forum Members Parties, Tours, et al forum here on PW. There's a recap of the most recent one here:

I've also volunteered to host a DC-area party, should anyone be interested.
