Can anyone compare and contrast the sound of a Roland FP-7f versus that of its console equivalent (whatever that is)? For the FP-7f, I'm referring to the built-in speakers, not external amplification. Thanks!

There could be a few console equivalents, and to some degree the differences between them have to do with speaker quality. For the most part, I would expect the console speakers to be better, though sometimes they are located down low, which is not that good a position. The FP7F speakers are right on the top.

I played the FP7F the other day in a store and was not that impressed with the speakers. It would have been weird if I was, though, because they are squished into a very small space. Considering their size, I think they are pretty good.

The speakers in even a less expensive Roland console will sound better. The size, weight & placement of the speakers on the FP-7F must be a compromise whereas other aspects of this DP are really tops. Even a basic console doesn't have to make the same compromises.

They are very useable with a pleasant sound in a small space, but it really matters what you rely on them to do.

I'll add that I've used my FP-7F to play around with friends (guitar, bass) in my living room. I had to push the speakers a bit, but we could still have balance. Some instrument sounds perform better than others. The speakers have good warmth but very little punch.

My ultimate intent is to play the FP-7F in my home, not likely with others (although maybe some day, I'll get better and not be so shy). When the day does come when I need the punch, perhaps then I can invest in a proper amp. Thanks for your comments.
