Sorry, that's just the way it is.

So, which is it, yes or no?

Sorry folks, BB and I were obviously posting at the same time.
He was thinking it through based on experience, I was shooting from the hip with a gut reaction to the events.

While everything Greg said is true, I'm felt really torn point because this is a terrible situation with no easy answers, and I feel like many of our members are like family to me.

However after thinking it through further, I have to agree with Greg.

We certainly have members who would conduct themselves properly, even while arguing their point. But we also have people who would take it off in left field very fast.

I once offered to open the Coffee room back up as a "members only" forum (meaning you had to specifically request to be allowed access). Because it would take more work on my part I asked that anyone wanting to participate email my directly, and that they pay a small yearly fee because of the extra work.

About five people agreed. Needless to say it never got opened.

Sorry folks, as much as I fell this topic should most certainly be discussed, after cooling off a bit and giving it some thought, I have to agree with Greg. It just won't work on the Piano Forums.

I know what you all are talking about and understand. I've seen all too many "discussions" on other forums get way out of hand. All it takes is one person to start getting contentious and it can snowball from there. It's really a shame it has come to this. It would have been an interesting discussion SH...

Yes I agree to. I am very passionate about this subject but in no way can make the piano-gun connection.

It's also good to see Frank stand behind his mods decisions as well as respond to this so quickly.

I also think burying your head in the sand and not discussing these issues just leads to more of them which may be why these situations are happening so frequently. Obviously BOTH mental health and gun control are extremely important issues but again, a piano forum is not the place to discuss this and I agree to.

The tribe has spoken.

To whom it may concern,

No one is going to have this conversation for you America. Don't you get that? There is no appropriate venue to talk about massacring children. When something this horrific happens, EVERYONE NEEDS TO TALK ABOUT IT!

Are the debates going to be heated? Yes. Are people going to be offended? Yes. Will certain people say incredibly stupid and hateful things? Yes. Does any of that matter? No, of course not!

Honestly, anyone's appeal to civility or venue as reason not to have this discussion demonstrates nothing more than moral and intellectual impotence.
