As the subject suggests, I'm wondering, what is the correct pronunciation of the word Gymnopedie? I've heard it a couple of different ways and I was wondering if there's an accepted or correct pronunciation?

thanks smile

Just say "Gym" and "No pennies". Then change the 'n's in pennies to 'd's. Peddies.

Then say Gymnopeddies.

Then, to get super fancy, you can pronounce the 'Gym' part like 'Zsa Zsa' Gabor.

Say it...Zzzschgym. 'Zsa Zsa', ....Zzzschgym.

Zzzschgym-no-peddies.

Zzzschgymnopeddie.

Close, and nice try, but no cigar..."zsa" has an "ah" sound in it at the end...which would mean that "gym" is pronounced like "zzzchahm", when what you really want is "zzzchim", which rhymes with "shim" (more or less)...so that the word in totality would be "zzzchim-no-peed-dies" ...n'est pas?

Edited to add that I personally prefer the syllabification: gym-nop-a-dee, even though it apparently is not the usual or standard...

In my ears the first G sounds more like a c (as in cube).
