I have a YPG-625. It has "Graded Hammer Standard" action. I tried out the DHX-640 in the store 2 days ago. The keys feel heavier, more like an acoustic. I am having trouble adapting my playing to acoustic pianos and the mentioned DHX-640.

I know the "piano like" feel of the DHX-640 is a feature Yamaha is promoting. However, I don't need all the electronic features of the YPGs and DHXs. Now that I am advancing in piano I want a portable with the heaviest or most acoustic like feel without all the software/sounds/lights and whistles. Does anyone have the ability to compare the YPG/DHX with the P155 regarding the resistence of the keys. The harder it is to press, the better for me.

I know there are higher priced digitals out there but I mainly want to know about the P-155 or anything under 1,000.00 (USD). that would meet my preference regarding the key action.

Thank you

Are you sure it's the DHX-640, and not the DGX-640 you played? The DGX-640 would have the same or similar keyboard to the YPG that you have. The P-155 has the heavier and better GH keyboard rather than the GHS of the DGX.

If they don't have the P-155 in the store to try, you might be able to find a YDP-161, YDP-181 or YDP-S51 that share the same keybed so you can compare the difference.

In that price range, good things are also said about the Casio PX-150.

The heaviest feeling actions in a portable up to about $1k are the Yamaha P155 and CP33 (P155 has speakers, CP33 has MIDI controller functions, and the pianos sounds are somewhat different), and the Korg SP250. I've never played the Kawai EP3, so that might also be a possibility, their actions tend to be on the heavy side. None of these boards have tons of bells and whistles. So I think there's your short list.

Yes, I meant the DGX.

Is there a difference between the Korg SP-250, Korg SP-250 WS and the SP-250BK? I just tried the BK, the keys were only slightly heavier than the YPG. It was 499.00 (USD)

I believe the letters after the SP-250 indicate the colour of the chassis (white, and black respectively) - the action etc. inside should be the same.

Cheers,
James

Oh, sorry. Well, I'll have to try out the other suggestions. Thanks for your help
