Might help if you could say more about the rhythm, or where the beats are, or anything.
Or even just, is it slow? fast?

Maybe someone can solve it 'as is,' but that would be darn good. smile

Are those even the right notes?

Every day we are afforded a new chance. The problem with life is not that you run out of chances. In the end, what you run out of are days.

Which part - the beginning? And are you sure it's by Beethoven?

I wondered both too.

If we had more info, we'd have a better chance to guess even if some of it isn't right.

Itay: Anything more you can tell us about the piece will help.

.....just in case this isn't by Beethoven.....

Story about a time I and my extremely knowledgeable ha buddies mistook something for Beethoven -- right here.

BTW, composers that those notes would have suggested to me:

#1 Bach
#2 Chopin
#3 Beethoven
#4 Brahms

The first one gave me zero.

The second gave me mostly non-classical even though I specified "classical" and it said "classical."
But BTW most of the classical things it gave were Beethoven, although none of them really resembled what we've got here.

I have a feeling the OP gave the wrong notes. Beethoven doesn't do A minor very often.

But those sites are fun when they come up with crazy titles I've never heard of. I guess there are only so many permutations of letters when you don't take into account the register, rhythm, or tempo.

I wouldn't consider that "the wrong notes." I never assumed it was being given in the exact key, nor that the OP was trying to do that. I actually consider it sort of standard to give 'unknown' melodies in C major or minor (which is what the "Dictionary of Musical Themes" does) or A minor.

Here you go:

2nd movement of Beethoven's 3rd Cello Sonata. And it IS in a minor.

Two questions :

1) Why are you sure this snippet is by Beethoven?

2) Where/How did you first hear this?

This is interesting.

MarkH's example seemed pretty darn close.

Itay, can we ask: Where do you think you got it, and how do you know it's exactly that? (Or at least very close.) I think we've all had instances where we've misremembered a melody, in varying degrees. For example, a while back, I asked about a phrase that was stuck in my mind, and I was pretty sure I had it right but in fact I had one of the harmonies wrong. (Beet314 was able to give the answer anyway.)

(I see that Bruce was posting similarly....)
