I haven't posted much this year so I thought I would post my piano goals for 2013.....and maybe testify (that's what it's called in church) about what I accomplished in 2012.

I can play Moonlight (1st movement) fairly well for a beginner. The wife-unit like it! I can also play Weeping Willow fairly well. However I can't seem to play either well enough to record and post! I have also picked up a few pieces from a Hymn book that my piano teacher gave me.

I'm going to learn a few new Joplin pieces this year. I really like playing hymns, so I will learn a few of those too. I also plan to learn a few of the Bach inventions. Finally, I hope to find a new piano teacher! My stretch goal is a new piano, but that's wishful thinking.

Any other New Years resolutions out there?

Any opinions as to which one?

I've started The Nonpareil. The other will be either Maple Leaf or Rose Leaf.

My wife hates to hear me practice but loves to ask me to play for guests. I figure that Maple Leaf (or The Entertainer) might be good for guests, but I really like Rose Leaf and The Nonpareil. I don't bother playing Moonlight or an Invention for guests.....most don't get it. I get requests for things like Charlie Brown theme song or The Piano Man.....can't play either one....not particularly interested. I love ragtime, so learning is not a chore.

haha I like your avatar. I think my resolution will be to construct a regular and consistent practice regimen and to join the MOYD 2013 club so as to help do it.

Each of the last three years (2012 inclusive) I've upped the amount of time I've practised. I hope to do that again in 2013. It's made a huge difference in my piano playing.

And yes, it's not just time, it's focused time

I'm more focused on getting a book published than any piano performance goals. I would like to get the "Stars and Stripes" back up to snuff. It's a real fun piece to play, and a crowd pleaser, but my hands are a little small for the minor tenths in the middle section, and in the arrangement I play, the left hand is ridiculously active in the last section.

For Joplin, might I suggest starting with the Entertainer? The Maple Leaf is a little more difficult, and if you haven't played much Joplin, or stride really isn't your thing, then it might be easier to wean into it. Now, if stride is your thing, then rock on and go after the Maple Leaf. Great piece!

The Entertainer was my first Joplin piece. Working on my 3rd. I HAD The Entertainer committed to memory......since I've stopped playing it, my memory is no longer committed! I'm hoping I can pick it up again without too much difficulty!

Ditto that!The Entertainer was the only thing I could play (albeit one handed) before I started having lessons, once I got to it in Alfreds book, and completed it, my brain blanked it out in horror that i must of played it 10000 times lol
