It was just pointed out on TV that it's already tomorrow in Japan and Australia, so I was just wondering, James--- since I think you're the only person I know in Japan to ask--- I was wondering how the End of the World is going over on the other side of the International Date Line?

I suppose someone from Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, Indonesia, etc., might chime in. Is the End of the World eating up the planet as the Date Line advances, or do we have to wait until it reaches the Mayan time zone (I guess that would be Eastern Standard Time, or maybe Central Standard)?

So far, certain people have been very free in predicting the date, but vague as to the time.

Just wondering.

I'm looking forward to a little fire and brimstone tomorrow. It's like one giant puddle here in Oregon.

"...If he doesn't answer you, does that mean ..."

It means--- let us hope--- that it's the middle of the night in Japan, and James is not yet home from the End of the World party.
Knocking back sake and sushi, like anyone would do.

My dogs are still expecting to be walked; they are taking no account of the occasion... and, they say animals know these things.

I'm eyeing the piano, and wondering what to play, just in case it is the last thing.

Ando,

Uhmm... I hate mention this, but that's probably just global warming. smile

The Mayans lived mostly in Central America - roughly Central Time Zone (in US terms). So we'll have to wait for another 12 hours or so for the cataclysm to begin.

Dan.

p.s. Seattle (close to where I live) is in an earthquake zone and Mount Rainier is a volcano. Could get "interesting" tomorrow!

This whole Maya thing is a bit funny, eh? As if anyone really believes the end is nigh.

NASA issued a video a few days ago. I expected they'd poo-poo the end-of-the-world prediction, and they did so in, perhaps, the first ten seconds of the video.

The remaining minutes were devoted not at debunking the Mayan prediction, but at debunking the Maya historians. It seems the Maya DID NOT predict an end to the world. Rather, the historians simply misread the Mayas. In the video it is claimed that there is simply no evidence of any such Mayan prediction.

So not only do we not believe in the end of the world, neither did the Maya.

This is no global warming - I know a good apocalypse when I see one! Apparently the Mayans were wise enough to factor in world time zones - which, when you think about it, is child's play after predicting the apocalypse on a particular date.

The only thing that has me baffled is why the power is still on and my internet is still connected...

It's basically a page flip over in their calendar. But as dogbert says, it's biiiiiig and rooooound, which means it is a great choice for the end of the world.

I was in Venezuela for 2000 and there was a large number of real-life people who I interacted with who believed solidly that it was the end of the world. Biiiiiiig and rooooound!

Yeah, it's been variously described as:

- Nothing
- A numerical oddity in the way Mayans designed their calendar (like a ticking over of their odometer to a new set of numbers)
- A return to simple, agrarian values and an eschewing of all technology
- a rediscovery of human and spiritual values. (yeah, like Mayans were becoming hedonistic heathens, obsessed with their iPhones..)
- The apocalypse.
- A figment of some anthropologists' overactive imaginations.
- A massive load of bollocks.
- Who knows what else...

Drats - I forgot all about it, although at least if something was going to happen I was actually up at the time. I was actually playing the piano, which is amazing for me because normally I just talk about pianos!

Good morning folks,

I just put my head out of the front door...everything seems normal.

I guess the end of the world didn't happen after all - at least, not in Hamamatsu.

James,

oh Thanks God you're alive. So there will be 2013.

So I can still hope to play some sonata next year. Ahahahahaha.

Seriously, who is truly believing that the world should end 21 of december? :|
Well... let me go back to my exercises. A person have to study technical exercises to play a sonata next year.

Cheers everyone. smile

Hey, it's not over yet! The voices in my head just told me that the planet Nibiru will appear in the Southern sky in nine hours time and obliterate all non-believers and Sasquatch.

Oh, so it seems that Nibiru didn't make it appearance here. But well, now it 11a.m. here and it was supposed to happen in an hour or a half.
