wow that sucks! crazy though the man can have so many pianos! one, two.. maybe even three at a maximum.... but 40 odd... thats intense!

Many of those instruments seem to be mechanical: Ampico grands and orchestrions etc. At first I was skeptical of the dollar figure, but antique mechanical instruments often have a premium value because they are true collector's instruments, as opposed to regular old pianos from the 1880s to 1920s, for example.
A sad loss, surely.

Indeed - these are mostly reproducing grands and other self-playing instruments. The $400K figure does not seem out of line as some of these instruments can reach the 6-figure value depending on make, condition, style of case, size, etc. A Hupfeld violin machine could max out that $400K figure by itself if it's a real beauty that's been totally restored!

I hope the Wurlitzer organ is alright and repairable. These organs are not made today.

You would be surprised at the generally low market values on most older reproducing grands.
I have a completely restored Chickering Ampico 5'7" grand in my livingroom that would likely sell for more if it didn't have the reproducer. I also have a Steinway XR Art Case Duo-Art reproducer in my warehouse unrestored. The market is simply too low to make it a worthwhile rebuilding candidate.

I hope the Wurlitzer organ is alright and repairable. These organs are not made today. Actually - that is an Allen digital theatre organ. And they make quite a few of them every year. And I doubt it is worth repairing.  Doug

Yeah, my mistake, it looked liked a Wurlitzer though. He might be able to get that replaced with a better model (perhaps a TO-5Q?).
