It's cold in Maine, but it keeps the Blackfies and mosquitoes down to a manageable level.
With a woodlot and a wood burning stove our heating costs are right where they have been for years - a little chain saw gas and some sweat along with the town taxes on the wood lot. 'Comes out to about $50 per year give or take a little.

The city is supposed to be replacing that, too. Any time now.

Yikes! -10 this morning... that's without the windchill.
Even inside the car, my nose was burning until the car warmed up a little!
On the radio, they mentioned 60-some days until spring...

I used to tell customers to avoid tuning in January/Feb due to the cold, dry air taking the pianos flat. On those pianos 25 cents or more flat, it might be prudent to raise them only 1/2 way to 440, or you'll be lowering pitch big time come spring and summer. Or........maybe reschedule tunings after the cold snap ends.
I found I had to lower my furnace humidifier during cold snaps to about 15% or the windows would frost up.

We got 1" of snow this morning.
Anymore, the weather channel warns us of severe weather conditions, and when we get outside,we think "This is severe?"

Single digits this morning. No problem, two wood stoves in the house and two Dampchasers in the piano: inside and in back, seriously! Pitch still fluctuates a hertz or two though. Its a Walter Console.

I like cold weather. It helps relieve the ache from banging my head against the wall.

Okay, now you warm weather guys are going to get it! Just because it's warmed up to -38, from -40 yesterday, don't mean it's not beautiful here with the clear blue skies, and the warm sunlight flooding through the windows! BUT . . . When it's this cold, nothing beats a warm fire, two glasses of red wine, and a wolf fur rug to lie on! Add freshly baked blueberry pies, cherry pies, and homemade cinnamin buns! Then, before bed, a warm bath or shower! Add to that lots of time to play the piano because . . . the car won't start! Take that! I think summer all year round would be boring! Notice I said, "I think"!

Jerry Groot...you put a hex on me!!!!!!! Until yesterday the weather here in Central Carolina was mid to upper 50's. About normal for this time of year. Tonight the low is expected to be 12 out here in the hinterlands; tomorrow's high 30. Brrrrr!!! We just aren't used to this!!! Good Job Ole Friend, Ole Buddy, Ole Pal!!! One of Diane's cinnamon buns with a cuppa java sure would help!!!

Hey, I just looked at the weather map. It's 4* in Cincinnati now, and 7* in Grand Rapids. What's wrong with this picture? I'm 350 miles south of Jerry. It's suppose to be warmer.

Do you guys remember the post where I was blowing the cold air south???? Well? It took a while but, it worked!!!!! It's so cold out there right now that my dog doesn't even like it! I was just thinking, I'm glad I'm not a nudist! If any nudist colonies are religious, they are sure to turn into atheists in the wintertime.

"Global warming has started in Grand Rapids Roy." Ron Alexander
-------
Don't get me laughing. Where I live, warming of any sort is welcome, global, local, or warming of any geographical measure.
I got so excited about Al Gore's "Global Warming" pontificating that I put in less firewood this year. 'BAD mistake!
