Good morning everyone! My schedule is a lot less hectic this week. I'll have more time to do some postings. I continue to be fascinated with the fusion of old world and contemporary music of Beats Antique. Here is "Egyptic."

This selection performed by Angelique Kidjo is one of my favorites. Here is "Lemanja."

Eglantine, that was a remarkable program and highly recomended.
I loved the "battle of Prague" piece of music.
One of the sadest aspects of the whole story is that the girls of that time played the piano and sang, oft in the hope of impressing a particularly handsome and suitable eligable bacheler.

Something which the Bronte sisters did not have much luck with.

here is a picture of the bronte households piano...

Thanks, Griffin. I was already aware of the Buddha Bar series, but Beats Antique is new to me (even though it's just the kind of thing I listen to, tribal/electronica). Sounds good!

Thanks for the pic, Rossy.

Good morning! I woke up this morning in a mood to hear Richie Havens. Here, he sings "Sad Eyed Lady." It was originally written and recorded by Bob Dylan.

Hi everyone.

Here's Grant Green doing Sookie Sookie, a great tune for a sunny day! (It's wonderfully sunny here at present, but it could all vanish in 10 minutes.)

Sookie Sookie: written by Don Covay and Steve Cropper, covered by all and sundry, including Iggy Pop.

thumb Thank you Eglantine!! Just what I needed! It's not sunny here at present. However, this is sure a day brightener. I'm going to share this with some of my other friends!

Griffin, you said you hadn't "posted any good organ music for a while"

which made me think to my self.. "self is there any bad organ music?"
( you know these are the thoughts that go through my head!)

So, I went to youtube, and allthough I didnt find any so called "bad" organ music,
I did find what someone has called "Hurrible" I first thought they meant "horrible"

But after listening, I agree, it is Hurrible...

You have other friends?!

Heh he, only kidding. laugh

Here's another record I've been able to rescue from the boxes: 1993's Tropicalia 2 by Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso. Here's one of my fave tracks:

and here's Gil and Veloso performing it live and acoustic (from 0:51):

Rossy, that's some seriously bad playing right at the climax in the music! Twice!

For a wedding, I think I'd prefer a string quartet doing something like The Pixies' Where Is My Mind:

For your wedding Eglantine?
I was thinking of aquiring an extra wife as well.
I know you can cook some ( haggis , cheap cut of lamb etc)
How are you at housework? I know you can put self assemble shelving up, but are you Ok with heavy manual labour?
Darning socks?
Ironing etc.
lol.

LOL. Not MY wedding, Rossy. That's 'a' wedding.

NOTE that the song/tune chosen is supposed to be an ironic comment on the subject of the sentence, weddings!

Yesterday I made the wrong type of cake. You know, like they have the wrong kind of snow, or the wrong kind of rain, or the wrong kind of leaves on the line. So I made the cake from the wrong page in the book - I thought something was not familiar and not quite right, but didn't realise until it was time to put it in the oven. Doh!

Today I wrote three cards - with lovely pictures of places like Venice and London on the front - to three old ladies. Old ladies need cards, so get writing!

Tomorrow I need to do a dry run for lemon and lime meringue tartlets, as later in the week I need to make industrial quantities of these and choc profiteroles.

I think you may be too busy to make me an adequate second wife, I am quite needy and would be jealous of the time you spent with the profiteroles.

I was enjoying Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto last night, the recording made by the great violinist Janine Jansen. Rather than posting the concerto, I see more interesting posting the documentary about this recording. It’s pretty long, has six parts, but I think that is a valuable report if you have a free half hour to spend with it.

The documentary can be seen with this link.

The last part (No 6) is missing. Here’s the link:

Somewhere in the wee hours of the morning this song popped into my mind....

I don't remember the first time I heard it, but I love the energy and fire (pun fully intended) in this piece.

A slight variation on Rossy's more serious post above wink Ah, the irony of it.

That's an interesting song to pop into one's mind in the wee hours of the morning! Always liked it, it's an "oldie" ! Perhaps they've haven't heard it that side of the pond ?...
