Hey guys!
I was recently given a Wurlitzer Studio Upright Piano with no key to it and I lost the key to the Boston Piano I bought way back when. Would it be possible to just buy another key to match the locks? Or do they use a unique key system for each piano.

Usually keys can be replaced, but sometimes it takes some hunting. Here is a supplier who might be able to help you out:

Search for "Keys & Locks." If you don't see what you need, contact the owner and he'll try to help you out. He's a nice guy.

So would I get a Kawai key since it is a Kawai Piano or a Steinway key?

I usually tell customers to go directly to the dealership that sells the piano to acquire a key. They can usually get them for you and will know what key belongs to what piano, including the Boston. The dealer here now charges for replacement keys because so many are lost. They have to order the replacements...

Dealers often have keys laying around. Or you could call the manufacturer.

I tell people to forget about the keys and never lock the piano. In most situations, a lock is more likely to cause damage than prevent it.

By the time you mail order any small item, the shipping is more expensive than the part.

Talk to your technician. When you call to book a tuning (which you will be doing, right? ), ask if the tech can bring a piano key along for you. I always carry standard keys and pass them on to my clients if needed, at a nominal cost.
