Well, if it was just a party at your place, I might agree.

However, since Lieberman and del Tredici, the guys at the piano, are two of the more significant composers of our time, it raises the bar of party interest, I think.

That's one party I'd like to be in... I'd really feel small, tiny, and ashamed, but still I'd have some more wine (beer?) and feel better at myself!

Personally I think that this is a great video! It seems cousy and fine and dandy and all that!

I didn't know what Liebermann looks like (and didn't know of del Tredici at all). I had to look him up to see if he's the young guy or the old guy.

Seems like the (very amateur) cameraman (?) was a voyeur or just a snoop, prying into every corner of the house during the party!

Otherwise, a rather fun video if a bit frustrating for reasons Bruce points out.

I certainly have played the piano at many Christmas parties (I must have all the carols and secular songs memorized), and I am amazed at what I can still do after a few too many drinks.

But the two guys at the piano? Lowell Lieberman's music -what I have heard- has always been of interest, but Del Tredici's cloyingly Romantic retread has never remotely engaged me, in fact I found Final Alice quite a trial to get through.

IMO of course, I'm sure Del Tredici speaks highly of my piano playing and compositional abilities. But for 'current' music, I'm free to look elsewhere, and some of the new music written for the Anglican Rite is far superior to anything I have heard from... well by all means.

There is a bootleg private recording somewhere of Eric Wolfgang Korngold improvising (at his hosts' behest, at a dinner party) on the piano, based on a tune from one of his movie scores. It was played on BBC Radio 3's 'Composer of the Week' program a few years ago. Unfortunately I was driving at the time (if I was at home, I could just press the 'Record' button on my DAB radio), but it sounded marvelous and he was obviously a very accomplished pianist indeed - there were lots of florid arpeggios and runs, but the tune sang out in various guises, and even developed.

Much like what another Wolfgang (Mozart) genius might have done, albeit in less Romantic fashion, to entertain royalty....

Here it is. (Such luscious opulence. Those were the days.)
