Hys guys, well as you enjoyed the Broadwood posts...
I thought I would carry on in the vein of "Not every great piano has the logo steinway on it"

here is a lovely circa 1850 Collard and Collard ( formerly clementi)

Absolutely gorgeous. Eglantine! I've never heard this. There are few things I get to hear by Purcell that I do not like. Thanks!

Griffin, I’ve really enjoyed those posts about Maurice André, what a great trumpeter! And beautiful choral music by Barber, he was really a multifaceted composer.

Eglantine, very expressive song! I love the voice of Christine Brandes. It’s always a pleasure to listen to her singing.

Rossy, Collard & Collard pianos also seem to be great instruments. I’ve enjoyed the video about the fortepiano as well; I love the sound from those ancient pianos.

Great Sunday posts from you all.

Isn't it lovely? All about the moon... There's a tenor version too, but I prefer the soprano. After all, it's Queen, not King!

The other evening we were pondering what it is that makes English music sound English (as opposed to French, German, Italian or some mish-mash)...

Everyone: any idea what the painting is on that record sleeve with the woman in the amazing harlequin dress and the checkerboard floor? I can't find the reverse of the record sleeve anywhere to check the credits.

Edit: Just found it via Google images. Hester Booth as a Female Harlequin, oil painting by John Ellys, England, about 1722-25. Held in the V&A.

Ah yes, the reverse keys make it even more harpsichord-like. You'll be showing me one with skunk tails next! (Reverse keys with skunk tails is my favourite keyboard style.)

Eglantine, John Ellys painted it around 1722-25 and the lady is Hester Booth.

Griffin, I particularly like the Telemann. (One of those composers I have on my 'must find out more' list, sigh...)

An interesting rendition of Ravel's Pavane pour une infante défunte

Good morning everyone. I found this spirited performance of "Freedom" by Richie Havens which really took me down Memory Lane. It is a 1974 Live performance on BBC. Have a listen and see what you think.

Hya there dudes and dudettes!! Griffin, I remember the song "Motherless child" Being done by Sweetwater.

For those who are unaware of Sweetwater, they were the First Band onstage at woodstock in 1969.

And were a "multicultural" band, well before the word multicultural was in popular vocabulary.

Nancy nevins was the lead singer of course.

How could a band that opened in front of 500,000 people slip into obscurity you may well ask.

Well, after the show they had to rush the keyboard player back to an Airforce base.

Nancy's car was suddenly and unexpectedly trashed in a most hideous accident...

leaving her in hospital for a long time, the doctors did not expect her to survive...

The injurys left her unable to sing, her vocal chords were damaged badly, the doctors did not expect her to ever sing again.

nancy went on to be an english grad and then taught this subject.

But, there was allways that desire and need to sing.....

Anyways, she is singing again, and here is yet another triumph over adversity......

Two songs, one on guitar and one on the keys...

Enjoy..

Lately I've become acquainted with the music of Karsh Kale. His music has been described as an electronic fusion of global music. Here is one example.

Rossy, we must have posted about the same time. I enjoyed listening to Nancy Nevins. She has a lovely voice. Glad she's doing music again. I do remember Sweetwater!

I didn't know about their appearance at Woodstock. Richie Havens also performed Motherless Child at Woodstock. I reviewed a video of him at that event. However, the quality of that recording was poor, and I didn't want to use it. Thanks for the background info!

Here's one more from Karsh Kale, and then I have to get some work done. I'll be checking in a bit later, however. Have a great day.
